Control Pedal issue (Moog Ep3)

Post by swsilander »

I’ve got an electro 6d and am having trouble with this new control pedal… I can only get the sweep from 71-100 at best. I’d like the 0-100 so I can control the organ volume level with it. Also, it’s kind of reverse polarity(?) so that what would be the mute position on a volume pedal is reverse on here. Thoughts?

Have you tried the different Control Pedal settings yet that are in the System menu? Including the Gain setting? This should help.

But be aware that even if the Electro will detect a value range 0..100, you never get a muted organ: The pedal behaves on the B3 organ engine like a real one:
"the pedal will function as a traditional swell pedal, which does not lower the volume all the way to zero, and also changes the character of the sound – especially when the Rotary Speaker Drive is used." (p. 10 of the manual)

Adding to what Fziegler properly suggested, consider that Moog EP3 has a pot on its side to set the minimum value, check that it is set to 0 (fully rotated counterclockwise)

PS: hello and welcome to NUF...

I tried a Moog EP-3 with my Electro 6D when I first bought it, and couldn't get a decent range with it no matter what I adjusted, even with phone support from Sweetwater. Eventually they took it back and sent me a Yamaha FC7 that worked right out of the box (with the correct Nord settings as described by FZiegler). In retrospect, I think there were some reports of others having trouble with the EP-3, even though others love that pedal. Maybe there's a quality control issue?

Interesting, I have 4 of the EP3 pedals and never had a single issue with any of them controlling the volume of my NS2, NS3, A1, NW2-

Yeah, I was stumped. And I really wanted to keep it: The form factor is great. Maybe it was all just user-error on my part. But the Sweetwater guy really tried talking me through it, and nothing worked. Oh well, very happy with the FC7...

I've gone through 3 moog EP-3's. Every time I need to replace it it's because of a weird issue where the sweep is no longer smooth which is the most noticeable using the wah effect. It gets very jittery and sounds extremely digital. (I imagine the pot is not made too well.) So why do I keep buying them? For me, the throw is perfect for the wah on the NE5. I tried a FC7 once and the throw sounded way too big and nothing I could do would shorten it up, even the little mechanical trick you can do on the pedal itself.

So since I know it's only a matter of time til my current EP3 fails me, am I missing something regarding the FC7 that can make the sweep shorten up?

The FC7 has 2 "mechanical positions", one for playing seated and the other for playing standing, maybe you are not using the correct one? See https://usa.yamaha.com/files/download/o ... _om_b0.pdf

Otherwise you may opt for the Boss FC500L which is as robust (if not more) and has a shorter sweep + it also acts as a stereo analog volume pedal.
