Child Of Love - We the Kingdom Sound Request

Hi,
So, I am pretty inexperienced with programming sounds when they go beyond simple splits or layers. I am wondering if anyone would be willing to help me create the sounds heard on the song "Child of Love" by We the Kingdom. It sounds like there is an arp running in the intro and then some synths layered with pads and piano. I have placed a Youtube link to the original song and a Mainstage patch walkthrough for reference. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to provide examples of what you are looking for. I can look into the arp piece, but initial thoughts are that the arp would work OK with the sounds as long as you're trying to trigger a single note (or in this case, possibly sampled chords), otherwise you would be looking into what could be done playing chords with the LFO emulating the triggering effect. For the other parts that layer piano, strings, and B3, I have what I call my "utility" program that's pretty flexible at nord-stage-3-programs-ns3p-ns3pb-files- ... 15745.html

Thanks for your offer to help. I think that it would probably work to play single notes for the arp, but really don’t know how to set that up or program the sound that is being triggered. I will definitely check out the Utility program you referenced as that would seem to cover the rest of the sounds.

Hi Bill. The Stage 3 program below uses the sample "Child Of Love W.NSMP". When you load it with Nord Sound Manager, NSM will ask if you want to convert it to NSMP3 format; after you agree it will load just fine as long as you have enough synth sample memory available. With the program you have the options of manually playing the notes with the Arpeggiator on (full chords are assigned to G1, C2, F2, and G2), or turning the Arpeggiator off and using the synth HOLD to
a) play the chord progression on Bb1 taken from the program sound;
b) play the chord progression on E1 taken from the original intro sample (turn off Tremolo, EQ, and Chorus, and turn FREQ to max); or
c) play the chord progression on F1 taken from the original intro sample with high hat partially taken out (turn off Tremolo, EQ, and Chorus, and turn FREQ to max)

Using the synth HOLD allows you to use both hands to play the piano. The manual version will make it easier to sync from time to time with your drummer. The AMP Release is set so that the sound has some presence after the notes are triggered. The Tremolo puts emphasis on parts of the Arpeggiator sound . The program sound can be tweaked using FREQ, EQ, and other settings - when I get a chance I'll work on it further but I wanted to get this to you to play around with.

I assigned a B3 and Strings to the right split so that they can be brought into the mix with the piano using the Control Pedal (similar to my Utility program). For the program I use the White Grand and Blue Swede Upright with Chorus applied. On the recording the piano sounds like a CP80 Electric Grand with Chorus, but I thought Blue Swede would work well.

You have gone above and beyond the call of duty, sir! Thank you so much. I would never have been able to do this on my own. Unfortunately, the singer just informed me that he has transposed this from the original G to the key of D, so I am not sure that now the sample aspect of the ARP will work. I didn’t imagine that he would have changed it by a fifth. I can always still use the right hand parts, so I am very excited to use the program your created. You are the best!

When I've played that song at church we just had the electric guitar do the 16th note repeating thing through the intro with no arp from the keyboard. It didn't seem necessary and would be a pain to lock in the rest of the band with it anyway. I used a CP80 electric grand patch with a little chorus and delay, and layered a B3 organ that I brought in and out with the control pedal as needed. Simple approach and worked just fine.

This program takes a different approach for the intro, using the LFO instead of arpeggiator allowing individual notes or full chords to be played, and adding "COL S62 G note W.nsmp" if you want the guitar note with the intro. The right-hand strings included with my program above are not included with this program in order to add the guitar with the second synth panel; however you can change that if you'd prefer strings with the piano right of the split. The amount of Tremolo on the chords can be adjusted for more or less "pulsing" between the two. Take care.
