Nice progress! Sampling can be time consuming, but it will definitely get easier as you get used to working with the Nord Sample Editor.

Hi,

I was wondering, please: does anyone here have a Roland D50 keyboard with the original factory sounds on? I was going to ask, have you sampled any of the Brass Section patches as yet? I remember these sounding particularly good back in the day, and I'm sure they can still add a touch of dynamism if layered with a modern-day synth.

I'm not sure if the D70 offered a completely different library, or was similar? I think it was more sampler-based (whereas the D50 was pretty much a ROMpler).

Hi Paul, I have created 2 brass samples which are close to D50 preset wave files, see attached. There were also some more basic brass sounds in teh D-50 called Flutish Brass, Slap Brass and Horn Section. I don't know though which of the basic samples had been used on the D50 for the patches Spit Brass and Synth Trumpets, but I can also try to create Nord samples close to the original sounds if you like so you can check.

I do have a few ideas actually regarding other aspects of sampling with the Nord. I'll probably have to post a few more questions after Xmas . . .

The one's I seem to remember are: Flutist Brass, Slap Brass, and Trumpet Section (or something like that - I'm going back 25 years!).

If it's any help, if you follow the below link there is a list of the D50 presets (I assume they are?), plus a few quick audio demos:

Horn Section, Rich Brass, Flutish Brass, Slap Bass & Brass, JX Horns & Strings, Velo Brass - I think that's all of them?

I think Horn Section and Slap Bass & Brass sound closest towards what I can remember hearing from the early 1990s.

They still sound very good to me, actually!

I think I was mistaken with the name being 'Trumpets'. More likely it was 'Horn Section'.

I'm thinking of layering it with the Roland XV50/50 module - if I can find a complimentary timbre.

With the preset 'Slap Bass & Brass', are you able to change the split-point? Do you actually have an original D50 synth?!
