Studio desk

Post by matje »

Does someone use a studio desk with a draw you can pull out with a NS3 88?

There are just a dew desks where the NS3 fits in, but with all desks the max weight of the draw is 12 kg, while the stage weights 19 kg.

You might need to involve a cabinet maker who could help you select a special drawer for exchange. In any case, you'll have to also watch dynamic forces, not weight alone: There will be more than 19 kg pressing onto the surface if you are playing - maybe another 15~20 kg (unless you only intend to caress your Stage).

I have this one from AZ Studio Workstations. It works for me. I went for the sit-stand model. It handles the weight of the NS3, but I don’t think a Nord Grand would fit unless you had it custom made (which they will do).

I’ll post a picture of my Workstation if I can figure out how.

You can include photos only with the full editor. Depending on where you are you may need to use the [Full Editor] or the [Preview] button to get from re-editing with the quick editor to the full editor.

Does it read 2.000 Dollar? Puh, that‘s not quite a bargain. What if you take a stand like my k&m 18950, change the solid feet with chair rollers from the DIY market, and you‘ll get a movable stand at less than 200 Dollar which you could put under your desk?

Cheers from Germany

You may take a look at Zaor desks, not cheap but well built, their Miza line includes models that fit weighty 88keys keyboards, use their search engine to list models that fit NS388 https://zaorstudiofurniture.com/product-finder/

I recently bought the Miza Jr. for my studio. While mine is for a 61-note controller, I can attest to the quality. It's a very nice piece of furniture that I expect to have for a very long time.

In fact, it isn't very easy to find a good table with a draw. My friend recently tried to find something similar, but he could not even find something similar in stores. He ordered such a table from a carpenter, it turned out very well. I've recently been looking for a handy desktop to work from home. I was fortunate, and I found such a table on the https://eurekaergonomic.com/standing-desks/ website. I think that you can see a table with an extractor fan on this site.

I've been looking for a studio desk with keyboard tray for a few years and most just don't fit either 88 key boards length or full workstation type boards height and length. Then looking at how people use these studio desks most use MIDI controller boards which usually aren't as tall and also not a lot of controls they use while playing. Those with workstation type boards don't tend to put them in studio desks, but beside them in an L configuration. Some will have a two tier stand next to the studio desk. So for me I'm now looking to a studio desk that will fit my 88-key MIDI controller.

One thing I have seen done a couple times is people just getting a big desk then getting a keyboard Z-stand with wheels or one they can add wheels to. Then they roll it under the big desk. Not as fancy as a studio desk but does the jobs and less expensive.

I have two old Invisible stands, a piece of plywood, and the plexiglass front of a Disklavier upright piano. I bought a pull-out keyboard tray and mouse pad and mounted them. Been using this setup since 1997, and it holds a lot of weight-
