Electro 5D Power Supply Question

Hey everyone,

I finally managed to get my hands on an Electro 5D second-hand. Unfortunately the cable has arrived pretty beaten up with some exposed wiring so I need to find a new one.

The plug it came with says "7a 125v" on the plug (it's two- pronged with a separate green and yellow grounding wire which also looks on its last legs)

I already have two three-pronged power cables that should fit the Nord but they are both "10a 250v" so..... is it safe to try them?

To make matters a little more complicated, I currently live in China.... and I reckon this Nord was ordered from Japan (maybe the power requirements are different)

On the back, the power information to the right of the plug input has some information. I have attached a picture. Hopefully it's an easy fix but as I sit here desperately wanting to play, I also don't want to blow up my Nord. Hopefully someone can help me soon. Thanks in advance.

Your new cables should be fine: If the old one was 7A @125V then the new one with 10A @250 will be no issue.

From the placard, your Nord needs 100 Volts AC power from the socket, and AFAIK China has a 220 Volts power net. DO NOT connect like this! You must either use a transformer to go from 220V to 100V, or open up the board where you can also change the power input from 100 to 220 - but this will also require a different fuse!

Thank you so much for the information. I think I'll just look into getting a transformer. Unless they changed the power and fuse already (the seller also lives in China, maybe best to contact them). If they have already switched things inside the keyboard, my power cable should be good to go, right?

What is the voltage in China?
I would not connect it until you know that AND check what setting has the transformer inside the chassis has been set to. There are several threads and photos in this site.
Did you ask the seller if they used an external transformer or whether they used it directly plugged?

Funny thing is that the label litterally says "Corporation Yamaha Music Japan" (!)

So the voltage in China is 220v but yes, I am guessing this was purchased from Japan (as many high end instruments often are here)

I have attached another picture. Opened it up and it seems to be switched to "230v". I also checked the fuse and the only information I can gather is on the silver cap-end it reads "F 125mA/250VP".

So using this information, can we surmise that it has already been changed to work with the voltage in China? The seller says they used their two-pronged 7a 125v cable no problem with it (I just dare not plug it in because it is almost ripped in two), but with this info, is it safe to use my 10a 250v cable?

The cable will be fine. The 10A/250V is the maximum current and voltage which exceeds the original 7A/125. From the label: 100V/25W would draw less than 1 amp.

Yes, I would say you're good to go, though I'm not sure whether the fuse is the right value. That should be easily checked on this forum though, there have been several topics about changing between 115/230 Volts.
