Midi controller via USB?
Midi controller via USB?
I'm considering buying an Electro 6D, but first I want to know if I'll be able to use my Roland FP10 as a midi controller. The FP10 doesn't have traditional MIDI in and out ports, it only has a USB B port for MIDI. Could I run a USB cable from the roland to the Nord Electro 6 USB port and expect it to work as a MIDI controller? Or do the USB MIDI ports not work without a software driver on a computer? Thanks in advance!

Re: Midi controller via USB?
Hi, no you can"t do that, as you say you always need a computer (or tablet/smartphone) to act as a USB host and router between 2 USB devices, the only alternative to avoid that is to buy a box called "USB MIDI Host" (there are various brands and models around) that "converts" USB MIDI to traditional MIDI DIN.
@moderators: this question about USB MIDI devices maybe should be added to the FAQ section of NUF as it comes quite frequently.
