Loading samples in Nord Piano 5
Loading samples in Nord Piano 5
I failed to load samples in my new NordPiano5.
--I'm using the latest version of the sound manager (v7.56)
-- When trying to load a sample .nsmp, I get the message not supported
--When trying to load a sample .nsmp3, I starts by saying not supported do you want to convert, during conversion it gives the message version not supported.
I seems that its only allowed to load nsmp4 versions and that is not a good thing.
Mayby I'm doing something wrong, but I also have a Nordstage 3 and never had these problems.
Does anyone have an idea?

Re: Loading samples in Nord Piano 5
Hm... I find that kind of unexpected.
Checking on the Nord site it says about the NP5: "The Sample Synth Section is based on an entirely new format and contains a wide range of entirely new sounds, such as..." so it could be read that it only supports nsmp4 only (?).
Perhaps drop an email to the Nord service?

Just in case are you running the latest OS v 1.16? (although there is nothing saying that it supports "older" formats).

Re: Loading samples in Nord Piano 5
It doesn't look as if the NP5 environment would be fully ready for now: No Nord Library 4 published yet, for example. So I'm not wondering much about the problems you have at the moment. We probably all expect this to change within a couple of days/weeks. And as far as I'm concerned, I do expect to get nsmp3 samples converted for NP5 use in the foreseeable future.

Re: Loading samples in Nord Piano 5
As I am now the proud owner of an NP5 73, I contacted Northern Sweden by email regarding the current problem (downloads from the Nord website) and received the following answer:
Thank you for reaching out to us!
You are right that the Sample Synth Section is based on an entirely new format.
This new format gives you Tru-Vibrato which is a synthetically generated vibrato that accurately models the vibrato characteristics of the different instruments like strings, brass, woodwind and stringed instruments and can be activated or deactivated with the push of a button.
You also get Unison for rich ensemble like sounds, round robin for authentic fast repetitions without the “machine gun effect” and legato for monophonic leads and basses.
The Piano 5 comes preloaded with a wide range of entirely new sounds, such as solo wind, solo brass, solo strings, basses, guitars plus a vast collection of classic analog leads and basses.
In fact, more than half of the sounds in the factory bank are brand new and the factory bank is already bigger than the one found in the Piano 4.
Included is also a selection of samples from the Symphobia and Swing! libraries by ProjectSAM. And more are on the way; for instance the Mellotron and Chamberlin samples.
All sounds can be quickly replaced using the Nord Sound Manager . You can also create your own sample instruments using the unique free Nord Sample Editor software for Mac and Windows.
We hope that you will be very pleased with the new sounds and features in the Piano 5.

Re: Loading samples in Nord Piano 5
That party-line response is pretty vague, understandably.
It looks like they have a way to go moving everything over to V4 for the current instruments and allowing NSM to update files from V3 to V4 (which may not happen). Stage 3, Wave 2, and Electro 6 will all need updates to support the new format.

Re: Loading samples in Nord Piano 5
Following answer was given from sound service in Germany:
“The libraries and sounds will of course be expanded.
Unfortunately, old libraries cannot be loaded, but old ones will be converted for the Piano 5 libraries.”

Re: Loading samples in Nord Piano 5
I had a problem by loading the Lady D piano. After some tips from this forum I finally managed to replace an other piano with the same amount of MB. Replacing the White Grand however is a hell of a job because it is used in a lot of programs.
To replace it one by one was to much work. So I used a piano that was only using ten programs. Now it's fine and i finally can play my beloved Grand Lady. Like it much more than the white grand but that's a matter of taste.

If you had used the Substitute (Replace) function of Nord Sound Manager it would have relinked al programs for you, in one shot... read about it on NSM manual or web pageRuudVincent wrote:I had a problem by loading the Lady D piano. Replace
Replace allows you to replace a selected piano or a sample in your instrument and make sure that your existing programs will use the new sound instead.
