Nord stage 3 wrong Piano tune

Post by Jan Fabry »

Hi,
I have troubles with tuning the piano section on Nord Stage 3.
All pianos are tuned higher than other sounds (according to the diapason). If I want to have right tone, I must decrease the frequency from 440Hz to 436.7 Hz in Fine Tune on System menu.
Of course, there is a big problem if I play, for aexample the piano and string, simultaniously (piano gives right tones, but other sounds are below).
Please, Is there anybody who can help me?
Thank you very much
Jan

I don't know if a faulty pitch stick could cause a problem like this. You probably don't have the pitch stick activated on your piano sounds, do you?

Next try: Have you checked with a tuning app - or only used a diapason? As I can read, a lot of diapasons these days are not very well in tune - they can easily differ 1 Hz and more.

Which would result in your piano section acutally being fine and your synth section detuned... What about the organ?

I used the mobile App ... for Android.... To tell the true, my friend from the band noticed that, because his guitar was tuned and he said I am wrong with the piano...He has really very good hearing. Then we analysed that and tried more apps.
Yes, organ follows synth...it is detuned as well.

Hi Jan, have you tested this with all/different piano samples or just one?

There was a similar topic recently, maybe you can find some good advice there

Hi Jan,
I‘d like to see whether it comes from the piano-engine or from a program. When you found out that all piano samples are affected, did you try all of them within the same program? Or did you just change the programs, and wherever a piano sample is in, then it‘s detuned? You could take an INIT program and load a piano sample to it and see what‘s happening.

If it has its error in a program then I see hope that it can be solved yourself. If it has its error in the piano engine - in fact a reduced tune to me appears as if the sample is played at a slightly reduced sampling rate caused by any electricity issue - then I guess it shouts for service.

Good luck and sunny regards from Germany

No, if you tested with a smartphone app, it's unlikely that your problem is in fact in the synth and the organ engine. You should be right to look after the piano sounds.

Didn't have the time to test yet - I'd like to try to get the same result that you have.

I don't see how you would get a wrong pitch detuned with slightly under 1% through any sample rate error in the hardware. And it is far from being a full halftone step.

It's probably not because you set the Detune button to 3, right? (if ever this has an effect with only 1 piano sound active)

Like Tasten-Bert, I would like to know if you tested with different programs and with programs set up from scratch.
