Power Cord Replacement Nord Electro 6D

Post by Tharsis »

hello, I've just bought my first nord keyboard, an electro 6d 61

when I connect the cable to the keyboard, it looks like it doesn't fit well. The cable plug is loose and does not fully fit into the keyboard connector. it is necessary to apply a lot of force and I am afraid to force and break the connector.

I want to buy a new cable to test, you know if you can trust this model from Omnhil:

the manufacturer says it is compatible, do you think it is safe?

Hi Tharsis

and a very warm welcome to this wonderful forum of nord enthusiasts. It’s a great place here.

I have an electro 5D and have never really been happy with the way the plug fits into its socket. Compared to other devices I have it always feels a bit spongy when putting it in. It misses a click, a snap. But it has never disappointed me - it works as on the first day.

The cable you show seems to be right, but you may realize that it’s rather the socket where the feel comes from. I wouldn‘t spend much money on this.

Enjoy. Cheers from Germany

Those IEC-type connectors feel indeed less "secured in" than other types around. Every of them I own is indeed "spongy" and/or kind of hard to push through. (By the way I am not sure there are high voltage connectors with anything that "locks in" by clicking or snapping, and this probably for safety reasons.) That said I have never really had interruption problems with them, as I have had multiple times with connectors of different types (not necessarily for high voltage applications).

To the OP, chances are that a new cable you'll buy won't be so dissimilar from the one you have now...

Here in Canada, Nord uses a C13/C14 coupler type.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_60320
If yours has a different type for your country, then your experience might be different from mine.

I have many of these IEC C13/C14 power cables around my house. I bought my Nord 2nd hand so I'm not sure I have the original that came with it. Both of the 2 that I am using (one fixed in the studio, 1 for playing outside the house) fit snug and secure. Maybe swap with the one on your computer or other devices and see if you find one that fits better.

Mike.
