converting .nlas to .nsmp or .ns3p ?? Help please?

Everything about Nord keyboards in general; which one to choose, the sound manager, sample editor, and general discussion about the sample and piano libraries.

converting .nlas to .nsmp or .ns3p ?? Help please?

Post by Keelbolt »

Please can someone help?

I would like to install the bassoon.nlas sound onto my Stage 3. The Sound Manager won't recognise the sound with .nlas extension. I really don't understand all these different extensions, and what they mean. I just love that bassoon sound, and would like to use it on the Stage 3. Can anyone help, please?

Hej!

nlas is the file extension for Nord Lead A1 files. The Lead has not the same internal architecture as the Stage - they do not speak the same file language, hence the problem.

Record the Lead audio, import in Nord Sample Editor, create nsmp file! That can be loaded in your Stage.

The NLAS file is a Nord Lead A1 synth file. It will only work on the Nord Lead A1.

Since the Stage 3 synth is based upon the A1, you will probably get close, but they are different enough to not be compatible.

You‘ll need to either sample the A1, as written above, or write down the settings from the A1 (or get someone who has access to one to do so) and use those as a starting point for rebuilding a similar sound on the Stage 3.

For the Stage 4 they'll add the feature to import .nlas directly to it

Just for info, we are thinking of decyphering the NLAS and NLAP format to show the parameters in the NS3 viewer (https://ns3-program-viewer.herokuapp.com/), in order for NS3 users to recreate some of the A1 sounds (2 synth engines max limitation).

Keep you posted,

Fred

Awesome, that would be very much welcomed

Although at the moment I still have my A1 I’ve been copying over some of my sounds to the Stage 3 manually I must praise you guys for this app,it’s since allowed me to sell on my Stage 2 and still have access to the setting values of my old programs and still copy them over to my Stage 3 at my leisure without still needing the Stage 2

Just curious if there could be some kind of parameter Value conversion(showing the values of the original setting of the instrument and the newer variations next to it) Some Nord models parameters use kHz/ms values but on another model like the A1/NL4 the values are displayed between 0-10 although with a good ear you can tweak them to be similar, plus some filter types don't seem to correlate to the exact same sound settings physically in relation to the knob positions across different models

it would nice to know the exact values in relation to the Knob positions across models when using another model that has a different display format,so for instance a filter setting on the A1 might show a value of 2.3 on the LED but the Stage instrument might display 45hz On screen, you can kind of gauge them manually with the Screen prints on the instrument panel as they still show the values between 0-10 on the panels of the Instruments but on screen/LED the values are represented differently, a direct value conversion would help make things more accurate to convert

For the viewer, all credits go to Christian and Andreas ! I've helped on few tests but you can't imagine how much work this was for them !

I'll make a separate post on the "A1 deciphering project" for the viewer.

For the values with different references, we have spotted this already and will try to propose a work-around.
This was already the case for some parameters between NS2/NS3 where this was 0-127 towards or from 0.0-10.00 : I asked Christian to add the calculated value in parenthesis. For i.e. : EFFECT2 Rate 28 (2.2)

Happy to have A1 users with some free time as I will request some files for testing. Please PM if interested !

Hi

as a general rule, I remarked (at least on Stage), Nord uses the 0/10 ranges if the knob is linear. But for other settings like the filter in Hz the range is custom. example: midi value vs Hz. Internally the midi value is used, but not sure that on the other keyboard the same custom range is used...

Hi Florence. Just checked on my A1. Filter freq knob shows physical range of 0-10, and the display also only shows corresponding 0-10. Does the Stage show a Hz value for filter freq in the display? That would be nice!
