Stage 3 Synth capability
Hi, as a long time Electro user I've just bought a stage 3. The aim was to keep the sounds and set ups I'm used to with the NE5 but be able to leave my old KingKorg synth at home and use the on board stage 3 synth for a few lead sounds and a few pads. So far I'm disappointed, even a pretty simple evolving pad that I'm used to from the KingKorg I'm not able to get anything remotely close. I don't expect to replicate a sound the same, they are different instruments but I'm not able to get in the same city let alone the same ball park.
What I'm looking to create is something like the pad sound at the beginning of the track attached (this was done using my KingKorg for the pad and my NE5 for the rest). I don't need to be exact but something similar will do. Can anyone have any suggestions of how to help me keep my remaining hair!

Re: Stage 3 Synth capability
Here is a link to what I found to be a very helpful multi-part tutorial on the NS3 synth engine.
If I understand what you are trying to do, I think you need to attach the LFO and some combination of Resonance and/or Frequency to a morph. If you want to control them independently, you can attach different morphs to the Control Pedal, Mod Wheel, and Aftertouch.

Re: Stage 3 Synth capability
Hi ajstan, thanks for the link to the videos. I have gone through these but although I learned a bit about synthesis it didn't help me create the sound I'm after.
I know I will need both panels, one running something like a slow frequency modulation. The other panel running an LFO working with another slow 'phased' sound. Of course there are some good paser FX in the FX section and these may be needed too. But I'd hope to get near to the sound I'm after before having to fall back on FX.

As well as the moving filter freq stuff, I reckon I can hear a bit of varying ring mod speed in that pad. Maybe try throwing that into your morph or LFO bucket.

Is the intermittent fluttering sound part of the patch you need?cvanselman wrote: Hi, as a long time Electro user I've just bought a stage 3. Thanks WannnitBBBad
Thats a good place to start. I'll see if I can get closer to what I want.

DJKeys, yes its the flutter. Also that it cycles through and keeps going as long as I hold down the notes. I can get something along the lines I want but it gradually fades away and I can't find how to keep it going. i've tried every version of attack and sustain but still flummexed

Re: Stage 3 Synth capability
Ok Here is something that would be a start:
1. The drone is on the left side of the split.
2. The flutter is on the right side of the split
3. You can control the speed of the flutter with the wheel, and use the AfterTouch to lessen the volume (or you can reverse that if you like). I did this fast, so in retrospect, I would also thin out the sound of the flutter, it is a little too fat!
4. Hold down the sustain pedal before pressing the keys.

To elaborate on what I said above, I think you'll get closer to that organic flutter by using the ring mod effect and varying its rate using morph or LFOcvanselman wrote:DJKeys, yes its the flutter.
