Nord Stage 2 synth section - i wonder

Post by zahush76 »

Looking at the waveform possibilities on the new nord stage, i'm wondering about

1) Wether there's a double saw like on the nord stage classic and ex. That's very important for phat basses, octave leads or fifths, and rich pads or strings. If the new nord stage doesn't offer that, than it's a bit of a problem.

2) What do they mean by "wavetable"? Are they sweepable like a waldorf true wavetable? Is it actually scanning thru a wavetable? And if not - why use this term?

1) I do not think anyone knows, altough you could techincally sample the waveform and put it on the sample section, I believe there are some already made in the Nord sample library

2) The NS had wavetables, unfortunately wavetable sequencing is not possible. NS2 probably does not have wavetalbe sweepeing neither. A wavetable is simply a collection of waves, short ciclic sounds that are similar to simple oscilators but with different timbres, they were used just like the saw waves. Albeit it would be rather cool to have clavia prove me wrong :D

What would it help me to sample the waveform?
I'm talking about the double saw, where you can detune the second saw to go an octave down, a fifth up, or whatever you wish. Sampling the waveform gives you a static situation. I also thought about the possibility of layering panel A and B, but then you won't be able to control the filter and the rest of the settings simultaniously.

I do noticed that you have a wave\sample selection knob for scrolling thru the samples. Maybe the "analog" waveforms on the left aren't single options. Maybe you can choose a saw wave, and then scroll thru several options within that category.

It's a shame there's no email address for asking these kind of questions. There's only the customer service where you have to insert the serial number of the clavia instrument you already have. What about those who don't yet own a clavia instrument, and want to ask a question?

excuse my ignorance about sampling. but if your not your preferred samples are inside the NS2 synth section, can't you just sample the double saw waveform with detune?...

Sure i can sample that. But it's kind of clumsy. I'd have to sample every kind of detune instead of having the freedom of just tweeking it on the spot, the way i want it.

From the front panel of the NS2 and based on my experience with the EX I would say they almost surely have the detunable second Saw. Remember that in the Classic/EX for instance in the Saw Waveform you had the simple Saw, than a detunable one where a second OSC could be tuned against the base frequency usin gthe TIMBRE know, and than ther was the SYNCHED Waveform. I would guess they did not missed out this already there feature in the updated Stage.

I would also really like that stuff to return on the stage 2. If they didn't already include it, I think they could easily include it in an update later on.

Ok. I emailed clavia about this question, and this is there answer:
Hi

Yes. There are 4 vesions of each analog style waveforms. Standard, detunable dual (one extra w/f with a -12/+12 range in semitones), synchable (hidden sync oscillator)and shap-able version (tri-shape, saw-shape and pulse-width) of all three.

Best regards,
Tomas Johansson

So i guess they had it all figured out :)

Did you also ask about the sweepable wavetables? I´d appreciate this feature.

What is more, I wonder how the envelopes will work now with the three control knobs.
