I really think it's time for a new Clavinet
The Clavinet samples were released way back in 2010, I really think we're due an update.
We should have keyoff samples, simulated damper slider using the mod wheel, and an overall better quality of sound.
The only software instruments I use nowadays are Clavinet VSTs, and it's because I feel it's the only area that my Nord doesn't cover!
Thoughts?

Re: I really think it's time for a new Clavinet
I totally agree. I found some very nice clavinet samples that, if you have a Nord Wave 2, you could set up to have a multi-velocity clav and use the filter and envelopes to simulate the damper/eq settings, but that still won't have any release samples and it would only work on one product. A new clav for the piano library should've happened a while ago.

Yes, more waveforms for funky clavi would be a good thing. Fully agree.

Interesting! The Nord Wave 2 is such an interesting product, just can’t quite convince myself that having both Stage and Wave isn’t a waste. I’ve actually similarly programmed a clavinet program on my Prophet 6 that I use when I don’t have access to a VST.tsss27 wrote:I totally agree. I agreed with the general sentiment that the newer Nefertiti Rhodes filled a massive gap in the Nord Piano Library, and was sorely needed. However, I still see people asking for further Rhodes updates, when there is something fundamentally wrong with the initial ‘pluck’ of the only clavinet sample we have!

Re: I really think it's time for a new Clavinet
I think a Wave and Stage could work well together, just depends on how you intend to use them. I'm going to pair a Wave 2 with a GSI Gemini module, which will provide all keyboard sounds, 2 different synths (both the Nord and GSI have synth engines,) and all sorts of other items between the 2 units. I can control everything from the Wave 2, and if buying these used, the cost is equal or maybe less than a used NS3 Compact. The Gemini can remap its MIDI CC's to the knobs and sliders of the Wave as well, so this makes a fantastically portable little system.
The advantages of the Wave are the increased flexibility with the oscillators, the increased layers, and of course the large sample memory. This is the only way to even remotely simulate multi velocity samples on a Nord.
Prophet6 can actually create some nice clav and electric piano-type sounds, particularly if you enjoy a little distortion.

Re: I really think it's time for a new Clavinet
I have both the NS3 and NW2 and find that the best cutting clav sounds can be made (on both) by using a sample plus a square wave of some sort. The synth wave adds a lot of power and can be EQd and distorted for a sound that really stands out. Most of the clav samples on their own are just a little thin for my taste.

Re: I really think it's time for a new Clavinet
This is a good idea, combining the pulse wave with a clavinet sample to fatten it up. I will have to play with that one. I found some custom clav samples which don't sound so thin, however the analog wave would add some nice consistency.DJKeys wrote:I have both the NS3 and NW2 and find that the best cutting clav sounds can be made (on both) by using a sample plus a square wave of some sort. Re: I really think it's time for a new Clavinet
As a Clavinet D6 Owner and user, for the last 4 years, I realy feel to give my two cents.
Yes....Clavinet Samples from Nord sounds good, however they could and should be improved, a lot..for example, the D6 has a very nice and particular sound when the note is released (note off), also the mutebar, that Stevie use on Superstition, and is a nice tool to shape the sound...
The samples are nice, and close to the original, but after 10 years, there are other keyboards/vst that sounds closer to the original....Nord could really do same new samples for us, and to show off to the competence why they are NORD.
Anyway....the real audio is under your fingers, do not forget about that! I mean, don´t play the Clavinet as you play piano...is other technique! That would help a lot to sound better too!

Re: I really think it's time for a new Clavinet
It would be awesome if Nord could release new clav and EP samples, perhaps a partnership with another company that has already taken the samples and then just do the work to convert to the piano file structure.
