Create own Synth sample , Mono or Stereo.
Hi All,
I need some advice regarding sampling own sound.
When I open my stereo sampled file In Nord Sample Editor 3, it always shows a mono file.
Does it means this the sound I create it is always in mono ?
I noticed it make no differences in file size when I bounce the file in mono or stereo.
What is the best ?

What's the nature of the sound? Stereo or mono? And what's the format of your samples? MP3 has a joint stereo mode, I think, where one channel stores A+B and the other A-B. Then, if your sound is mono, the second channel will be empty. Not quite sure, though.

A stereo WAV 44.1kHz file (which the Sample Editor requires afaik) always is twice as big as its mono counterpart.
Which software do you use to bounce/create your samples? Logic?

I am using Studio One 4 to bounce the wave file.
I checked the Nord Sample Editor 3 online guide, but there is nothing mentioned about stereo or mono.
When we drop a stereo file in de Editor we only see a mono and not a stereo wave, does this means the file will be converted to Mono.
or my stereo file will stay stereo ?

Re: Create own Synth sample , Mono or Stereo.
If you import a stereo track, you will have a stereo sample. You will see this possibly as one waveform only at low levels of magnification, but if you zoom in, you can see both waveforms overlaid in slightly different colors.
Have you tried zooming in? If you only see one waveform then, it's likely because your wave file has the same content in both channels (so you see only one line).
I've attached a screenshot of how it appears here for a stereo file (an extreme example with two different tones, just to check that it works as intended).

I havent zoomed in so far yet and now i see two lines (left and right), so sampling in stereo does makes sense.baekgaard wrote:Have you tried zooming in? If you only see one waveform then, it's likely because your wave file has the same content in both channels (so you see only one line).

Thank you so much for the explaination.

Re: Create own Synth sample , Mono or Stereo.
Some days ago I loaded a stereo-sample (short music track) into the NSample editor. First time I used it. I just looped it (so easy with this program) and loaded it into the NS3. It is still stereo. Seems like the Samplemanager is able to do pretty much everything automatically, so no need for 2 channels. I never used a sample editor that easy to use.
