This should work without too much fuss. As long as your virtual machine can see the USB port on the machine, you'd be good.Merlimau wrote:ChromeOS, Linux: I think you can run a virtual machine inside this OS with either Windows or Mac. In the virtual machine you can run the Nord software and connect to the keyboard.

Re: Nord Stage 3 without Windows or MAC
You are right, perhaps not, but there are some who do, Pianoteq, for example, and there are lots of multiplatform audio/music software like PD, SuperCollider, SonicVisualiser, Ardour, Reaper, Bitwig, Audacity, etc. so one is not asking the impossible.analogika wrote:Do any major synth manufacturers' librarian/editor software packages support Linux?
Yamaha certainly doesn't — it's just their social networking portal for sharing patches that is browser-based (kind of like this forum here for Clavia).
And what they appear to have in the way of mobile apps is iOS/iPadOS-only from what I can see…
Going back to Yamaha, I disagree with the comparison, the Soundmondo site implements patch transfer (a librarian-like function) to the synth via MIDI extensions in the Chrome browser (and perhaps others): connect the kbd to the USB port and you can transfer the patches from that page to the synth, brilliant!
Who would not like that mutiplatform functionality?

Re: Nord Stage 3 without Windows or MAC
In the future I would expect a Stage 4 with an Ethernet interface and a built in Web Server with the function of the Nord Sound Manager that you can access by any Web browser.
With the actual limitations of the installed hardware (32 Bit?) and resulting memory limitations there is no chance, but perhaps for later issues of our wonderful Nord keyboards.

Re: Nord Stage 3 without Windows or MAC
They probably don't. The big issue here is that Windows and MAC are both at a stage where their dominance is a legacy thing. More and more, you are seeing people whose only devices are ChromeOS, IOS, or Android. I prefer the ChromeOS/Android solution because they seem to work better for me (Yes, I've used all of them over the years and still have an IOS device for business--not my preference). I don't relish the idea of getting a MAC or Windows machine just to load an upgrade to a keyboard once or twice during the lifetime of the laptop.analogika wrote:Do any major synth manufacturers' librarian/editor software packages support Linux?

It's a really old unit, but one of my boards is a Triton Le. That thing is from around 2000, and even back then, they knew not to tie it to a particular OS. The device had a slot for a predecessor tot the SD cards for transferring new software and sounds. That's probably not practical in the current Nord, but it surprises me that there is an way to place the Nord in a mode that it shows up as a USB disk and a method on the Nord after files are transferred to say, "upgrade from and/or load settings from the files in that space".

Re: Nord Stage 3 without Windows or MAC
Is ChromeOS actually a thing in the US? On a global scale, it is utterly irrelevant — its market share is even lower than Linux', while Windows' is twice that of iOS, globally (behind Android).
I'm convinced we'll see iOS support from Clavia quite soon — iPads are ubiquitous stage equipment and absolute standard for any non-desktop music usage. Not so sure about Android — fragmentation, slow/nonexistent OS adoption and iffy support for external hardware (as in, "if available at all"). Windows is declining, but still HUGE. Linux and ChromeOS are all but irrelevant, and probably even less than that among the actual target market, which is musicians.

Re: Nord Stage 3 without Windows or MAC
Yep, I agree. Having a nord sound manager version for iOS would just be sufficient for me. The keyboard itself doesn‘t even need to have Wifi or bluetooth interfaces - my usb cable can do the job. But, as analogika pointed out, being able to do all sound up- and downloads from my iPad would be a good step forward. Cheers from Germany

„All but irrelevant“ = „not quite entirely irrelevant, but very close“. Figure of speech.

Re: Nord Stage 3 without Windows or MAC
In that form "but" sounds to me as "except" rather than "not quite but close" (and that 's also what Collins dictionary says), so I have to say that I share Tasten-Bert doubt (but no doubt on what you meant, in any case)analogika wrote:„All but irrelevant“ = „not quite entirely irrelevant, but very close“. Guys. It’s a fixed phrase. A figure of speech, and it means „almost“.

Nope, also in those examples it means "except", but let's wait for some native speakers to give us the final... wordanalogika wrote:Guys. It’s a fixed phrase. A figure of speech, and it means „almost“.
