Nord legs height
Hey all, can't find any info on this, so maybe the collective expertise on here can help. I have a Nord Stage 2 EX and love it. It has the Nord legs, but they are about 1-2 inches too low for me to play comfortably standing up. Are there any solutions to this? I know I could just get a different stand, but I like how simple and stable the legs are. I could put spacers between the leg bracket and the keyboard, depending on how long the screws are, and maybe spacers in the rubber feet, but I wondered if somebody else has already solved this issue...

Re: Nord legs height
Hi, welcome to NUF.
I never used the Nord Keyboard Stand EX but afaik it should have some possibility to extend its legs (actually they provide two set of legs "ends" with different length), have you tried to work on that e.g. putting spacers (washers, other) at that level rather than between bracket and keyboard? Another idea might be to add some DYI extension, in line with the leg, if the leg ends screw is too short to add enough spacing. Last resort, but lnot recoverable" could be to shorten the longer set of leg ends to fit your taste.

Re: Nord legs height
Wow, great advice, thanks so much! I did not realize they made different length legs, so I'll definitely look into that...

Re: Nord legs height
I think the original legs had adjustable length, while on the present version they switched (quite inexplicably IMHO) to a fixed height suitable only for sitting

Has anyone found an alternative to the nord stand that's better? I need a better stand for my Grand

Yes the K&M 18950 is a good one, but I wonder what you mean by "better" - better in which way?

Re: Nord legs height
What do you mean by "better"? More adjustable, more robust, easier to set up-tear down...?cymro wrote:Has anyone found an alternative to the nord stand that's better? I need a better stand for my Grand
In general, the Nord stand looks quite clumsy to me: fixed height, relatively long and complex assembly...it sure looks good and will be quite stable, but I see it more for a fixed setup than for gigging.
As mentioned, the K&M stands are super: the 18950 looks like your grandmother's dinner table, but it's quick to tear down, folds up flat and is stable as a rock. You could literally dance on it and it wouldn't budge an inch. Downside of all this robustness: it's HEAVY. 11 kilos of thick German steel, it will probably be heavier than most boards you put on it (except stage pianos of course).
The K&M "Omega" 18810 is just as stable, plus looks super cool and leaves a huge space for pedals (important for organ, or if you have a big effect pedalboard). But it's huge and not foldable, basically it's only for a fixed setup in the studio. They did a foldable version, the 18820, which is (even) heavier and more expensive but does folds into a somewhat carriable shape and size.
For me, the absolute king of use and portability is the QuikLok Z71 Alu: large, stable and absurdly light, opens and closes in literally a couple of seconds, and has a very large heigth range which again you can regulate in seconds (unlike the K&Ms which are quite clumsy in this regards). Only, it's very light and the Z shape is not as stable as a 4-legged table stand, so with a heavy keyboard like the Nord Grand it will rock slightly backwards and forwards.
I have a Stage2 HA88 (relatively large and heavy) and all three stands, my uses are: the 18950 for gigging, the 18810 for the studio, and the Z71 for the rehearsal room.

Re: Nord legs height
I'd also say the Omega is best for home use - but there is a foldable version for +30 EUR. Don't have the number.Spider wrote:The K&M "Omega" 18810 is just as stable, plus looks super cool and leaves a huge space for pedals (important for organ, or if you have a big effect pedalboard). Correction: It's the 18820. And it's +50 EUR.
Nice to know that they now have shorter carriers for digital pianos, too: 18827. I've already changed mine.

Re: Nord legs height
I must admit I think the quality and design of the Nord EX legs are pretty poor to be honest, especially for what they cost. Sorry to all the Nord Fanboys of which I am one, this product left me a bit disappointed. Like others have said the stand is either too low or too high!! If you look carefully at the chrome parts they look like they have made in a school metalwork lesson, rough machining marks, poor quality chrome etc. the leg tubes are quite light and have a thin paint coating which scratches easily. Also why do only two of the four legs have locking rings, this makes no sense at all.
The K&M 18950 is a much better made stand but just doesn't look very 'cool' which is why I tried the EX but sadly think I will be returning it.
Come on Nord, they should be included with the keyboard at the price they charge. I recently tried out the new Casio 7000 and the stand is a work of genius, looks good and brilliantly engineered, I wish Casio sold the stand on its own and I would adapt it to fit my Nord grand. Also while on my my soap box why do not many people comment about the loud 'key thump' on the Nord Grand......why does it do this when the Kawai MP7SE doesn't which more or less has the same keybed?
I still love Nord keyboards but some design decisions are a bit strange if Im honest, like no power button on the front!! why do keyboard manufactures insist on putting power buttons on the back when many people use their keyboards in a studio or against a wall, oh well. Surely turning the keyboard on and off is as important as all the other easy to access functions Nord put on the control panel?
Right thats got all that off my chest, back to playing the piano !
