I think he meant voilà, not viola, but since you say you're going to try those settings out one begins to wonder* how much of all of this is part of the joke and how much is real!...

Don't forget this guy. All that synth work? No way could he be a serious keyboardist!
At least there's a little bit of rhodes though. ;)

Viola, Voila'...tomayto tomahto.

and please, for the love of everything holy, please don't post Cory Henry videos. I'm sick of picking my jaw up off the floor and pushing my eyes back into their respective sockets.

If you added at least Wurly
One thing I've noticed since I started moonlighting as a keyboardist is that a lot of tunes that I thought were done on a Rhodes were actually done on a Wurlitzer instead.

There's life in the group yet! You're welcome, just thought I'd toss a line out that you could grab, with all that talk of dust covers and MIDI, omg MIDI....

It was an extreme statement but some of you got the point. If you are in a band and find that you've become the funny sounds guy back there, it's time to push back. Sure, you can make honks and blurbs and "can you sound just like that guy in that band?" Or just sit back and play lots of string lines. You're better off becoming really good at acoustic, Rhodes (or Wurli, whatever), and Hammond.

Stevie Wonder - please. You guys drag out the one guy who played clavinet wonderfully and did so decades ago. Anything for an argument. Beethoven played a kickass harpischord too. As for the rest of it - what would Jimmy Smith do...

Stevie isn't the only one featuring clav, for what it's worth...

Ultimately, it depends on what kind of music you play. Often I play with another keyboardist and a lot of the music is improv, which allows for a lot of experimentation with synths, tuned percussion, effects etc. Of course pianos, organ, etc are the classic sounds every keyboardist should have (and I certainly do) but I personally can get just as much inspiration playing other patches. Those Thai gongs might be just the thing someone needs...

Gambold, it took me literally hours to reflect your last statements in my mind: "What does that guy want?" If you now say, it was only for provoking some reaction: I'm disgusted!

I'm not on that English language level to understand most sub texts, I'm not so deep in the modern keyboardists scene to understand all that irony you've evoked in answers. It's just not my game. But of course, I will let you play. And I'll say: It's for advanced users only.

There's ARP 2600 all over his classic stuff, as well as Yamaha GX-1 synthesizer.

Loads and loads of Minimoog all over Chick Corea.

It's the artist who imparts legitimacy to an instrument, not the other way round.
