MIDI CC#s not included in "Appendix: MIDI Controller List"
In case it's helpful to others, in setting up my Alesis Vortex Wireless 2 Controller, I found a couple of additional CC#s that aren't published in the "Appendix: MIDI Controller List" on page 60 of the v2.1 English User Manual.
CC#4: Organ Swell
CC#7: Overall Volume
Does anyone know of any others? I'd be particularly interested in being able to select next/previous Song and next/previous Program.

Re: MIDI CC#s not included in "Appendix: MIDI Controller Lis
That's because the Appendix lists only the NS3 specific CCs assignments, while CC#7 = Volume is MIDI standard (as well as CC#1 = ModWheel, CC#4 = FootController and CC#11 = Expression Pedal... see https://www.midi.org/specifications-old ... ta-bytes-2)
So, I m sorry but don't expect to find more... currently there is no CC defined on NS3 to perform next/previous Song or Program, though Nord may decide to implement that in future OS updates (if they want)
PS: in the past they used to specify Organ Swell = 4 , for example on NS2 manual I see it, so that is actually a missing one on NS3 manual

Re: MIDI CC#s not included in "Appendix: MIDI Controller Lis
Thanks @maxpiano. It would be helpful for Nord to add the 17 missing CC#s to have a complete reference list in the manual of what's used and what isn't.
I'll send in a request/suggestion to apply unused MIDI CC#s for Song/Program up/down to work like the external pedal does.

Re: MIDI CC#s not included in "Appendix: MIDI Controller Lis
For what it's worth, out of curiosity, I assigned the seven remaining MIDI CC#s without assignments in the NS3 MIDI Appendix to sliders on my controller and here's what I observed:
1 - Global Pan - all instruments, both panels. Only affects the selected Program and resets when the Program is changed.
10 - No impact observed
31 - No impact observed
41 - No impact observed
70 - Synth parameter, not sure which. When moving the assigned fader, the Synth section shows an E, but there is no indication on the display as to what is being modified.
81 - No impact observed
114 - Program shows an E when the assigned fader is moved. Not sure which parameter. The program name shows an E, but there is no indication on the display as to what is being modified.
I didn't test 120-127 because the MIDI spec says: Controller numbers 120-127 are reserved for Channel Mode Messages, which rather than controlling sound parameters, affect the channel's operating mode.

This is an old thread, but...
I tried this and I didnt' get what you meant by "global pan". Do you mean pan in the sense of balancing the two channels of a stereo signal? Because I find no effect at all in sending CC#1 to the NS3.ajstan wrote: 1 - Global Pan - all instruments, both panels. Only affects the selected Program and resets when the Program is changed.

Re: MIDI CC#s not included in "Appendix: MIDI Controller Lis
There is probably an error there, CC#1 is ModWheel so maybe the Program ajstan tried had a MW Morph affecting the Pan (AutoPan effect with Rate = 0 and Amount fully morphed).Hlaalu wrote:This is an old thread, but...

Global Pan is CC#10 in MIDI standard and according to ajstan test is not recognized (as expected)
EDIT: unless there is instead just a numbering error in that list (so "1- Global Pan" should have been "10 - Global Pan")

Re: MIDI CC#s not included in "Appendix: MIDI Controller Lis
As I recall, with the Alesis VW2, I assigned CC#1 to a slider and it worked on basic piano programs, none of which had panning assigned to a morph. I know of no program on my NS3 that has ever had the mod wheel assigned to panning. I returned the VW2 months ago so I have no way to confirm it today, but that's my recollection. There wasn't a numbering error in the list I posted. There was no impact when assigning CC#10 to a slider. I understand my findings are non-standard, but that was one of the reasons I posted them.

Re: MIDI CC#s not included in "Appendix: MIDI Controller Lis
OK, no doubting on your good faith, I was just making some assumptions, trying to evaluate the possible scenarios, however what you report is quite strange since CC#1 is always MW on NS3, no ambiguity there. Maybe an overlooked "mis-assignment" on the Alesis and you were actually sending a different CC? Could you replicate that test and also double check the CC being sent?ajstan wrote:As I recall, with the Alesis VW2, I assigned CC#1 to a slider and it worked on basic piano programs, none of which had panning assigned to a morph.
