Everything about Nord keyboards in general; which one to choose, the sound manager, sample editor, and general discussion about the sample and piano libraries.

External presets?

Post by sussko »

Are there any external presets out there made by private websites which you can download on your Nord devices?

Hi Sussko
I have read quite a few of your posts and get the impression you might not be totally 100% happy with your instrument, or you are trying to get more out of it to suit your needs. I have been through a process a bit like that, can I help in any way?

Sometimes people feel a bit disappointed when getting a nord, especially when not having done a brief research or played one before.
This is understandable because the filosophy behind nord products is a bit different than other brands.
When you buy a nord you shouldn't expect a board full of cool presets ready to hit the stage. It's rather a toolbox featuring all the tools you need in order to customize it according to your personal taste and needs.
This procedure might take some time. You have to understand how your board works, delete samples, load other, experiment with the effects, search and understand how a real hammond behaves for example, and how you can emulate this with the nord...all that stuff.
The preset progarms are there just to display what the board is capable of, if you are satisfied with some of them that's fine, but if not you are given the freedom to tweak and customize them to taste. This freedom is what most nord users love and you can not find it in many other brands.
My advice is that you should not feel you made a bad choice, but spend some time to connect with the instrument and make it work the way is better for you. I am sure after a while you will love it!!! :keyboard2:

Yes that is more or less my experience. I hated the combination patches and a lot of the stock sample choices. I have a lot of great synths and pianos in my house as references. Some listen over headphones, I have of course done this, but as my Nord was for live use I tried as much as possible to use my stage rig as reference. One the best keyboards I ever had was the Juno 60. The factory presets were average but with hours of programming it turned into a monster. The trouble is with samples you just have to keep trying new ones or create your own.

Don't get me wrong, I am really happy about my purchase. It is a really good instruments and I like it a lot! As you have figured it out, I want to customize my Nord to my own personal style and try to find the optimal settings for that. I would be glad if you can help me with this! Thanks so much in advance!

Well that is exactly my point of view as well! I did play the instrument plenty of times before the purchase and I am very aware of the fact that is you will need to create your own presets later anyways to suit your playing.

That was also my feeling when I bought my wave. The previous owner played completely different kind of music and most of his programs were useless for me. After studying how it works and figuring out how to make the sounds I want, I turned to love this little monster!

By the way, here is a link to nord's hidden sample library archive. It is not accessible through the official page for some reason, but there are many nice synth samples in there. See the column on the left. You will need alot of time to load and check everything but I'm sure you will find interesting sounds.
