Will I regret downgrading?
Will I regret downgrading?
Hi All -
Has anyone here ever downgraded? I have only used Nord for last 5+ years. I'm a little tempted to part with my Nord Grand, stand, monitor, etc. and just get a low cost Yamaha YPG series (or something similar). Reason being I only play in home, don't use any DAW, only use a handful of piano sounds, etc. Just curious what other fellow Nord members think of this....

Re: Will I regret downgrading?
I'd regret getting downgrading a great instrument I already have in favor of an inferior one yes. It might be different if I had to consider between which two I was going to get in the future, but if I ALREADY had it, I'd keep it. The fact that I only play at home would not be a relevant factor for me. I still like a great instrument to learn on, to practice, to play, even if I'm the only one experiencing it at the time. But that's just me.

Nord Grand, Nord Wave 2, Yamaha YDP-184, Arturia Keylab 49 MkII, Studio Logic SL88 Grand, Pianoteq 7 Pro, Garritan CFX, Teenage Engineering OP-1, and a smattering of Ukuleles.

Thanks! I was thinking thinking similarly and I'd imagine if I down graded Id end up buying it again 6 months later. I really do enjoy playing more on Nord over anything else Ive had so was curious other perspectives on it.

Re: Will I regret downgrading?
For what it's worth-It's not just the piano sound you'd miss if you downgraded, it's how this keyboard makes you feel when you play it. It's difficult to put into words, but it's just such a fantastic instrument to play. I've owned lots of keyboards over a long time of gigs, concerts and musical theatre. Between gigs, Yamahas, Rolands and Kurzweils stayed in their cases. My Stage 3 does not! It's just a joy to play. I also own a very nice 1976 Yamaha U1 acoustic, but just as happy on either instrument. Don't downgrade if you can afford to keep the Nord Grand. The lesser instrument might just possibly gather dust!

Please don't downgrade, just don't do it. When I took on my Grand, it changed my life for the better, nothing else can replace that. As a blind pianist, this is heaven for me and I would never let this go. Please stick with it, it would be a ridiculous thing to do if you moved to something else, found you were playing a crap action and the software wasn't giving the feeling that this grand does.
so you know where I'm coming from, regarding my statement, I lost my dad in december 2017, after he died, a series of crap events happened which forced me to surrender my entire studio, company, career, personal possessions, etc so that I could protect our home, care for mum, deal with the crap that a bank caused of their own fault and never apologised for, etc, funeral directors from hell, you name it. I went through nearly 2 years of hell without work, I found myself hating music, couldn't listen to it, I was in too much pain and trauma for the first year, then an event happened that made me start fighting back. think of a life where you couldn't listen to music, you'd shut it out. that hurts like hell, yes I've been there. I'm now just about on my feet. nord grand and stage 3 here in my home studio, a studio slowly being rebuilt, yet at the moment I'm concentrating on helping someone else rather than me.
don't let go of the nord grand. Stay with her please. That's the one dignified thing I'd ask of you. Enjoy what you do, what you love, don't skimp because you think you're not using everything of it. My Grand and stage don't have many programs on at all at the moment, just the necessaries because they are doing a number of jobs. So, for me, I couldn't be without these again, My heart would be broken.

Re: Will I regret downgrading?
Yes. You’ll regret it.
First - you have it. What’s the point of going backward? Even if you only play at home - I’ve had my Yamaha C7 only at home...
Seriously - unless you bought it on credit and don’t want to make payments, it’s hard to understand why you would downgrade. You have the Grand too - I haven’t played it yet but those who have say the keybed is MUCH better than the Fatar bed in the P3 I have.
If you really MUST downgrade, trade with me.

Re: Will I regret downgrading?
So, stevei... how long have you owned your Grand? Could this be a case of what we in the US call "buyer's remorse"... where you genuinely like your instrument, but just feel guilty about the fiscal indulgence?
Or are you feeling like you'd never take full advantage of the instrument's potential? Or conversely, it's not as fun/inspiring to play as you'd hoped/expected?
I'd really like to hear a little more about where you're coming from.
