NEW Nord Sample Editor 3 Discussion
Re: NEW Nord Sample Editor 3 Discussion
NSE3 won't support the nord stage 2 because in order to access it directly, the firmware needs to be updated. as this isn't being done by nord and we are still waiting for firmware updates for the Nord Electro 6, Piano 4 and Grand to be directly supported by NSE3, the only way you can do this is as per ver 2x manually adding through NSM.

Went to load this in to my Nord Grand as it has some free space, just to let anyone else know this, don't load NSMP3 files using NSE3 as it will come up with "Unsupported Format. that message is shown in Nord Sound Manager after uploading the file.S h a w wrote:Hi all,
I'm anticipating getting a Nord Wave 2 and wanted to test the new Sample Editor 3 software. I sampled a stereo patch from my Moog One and was hoping someone would be nice enough to try it out and let me know what you think / how it sounds? I really just want to know if the loop points sound good?
Many thanks in advance!
You've actually done me a huge favour as I forgot to load the symphobia orchestra strings into the stage 3, so just done that and the sample.
OK. get ready for it. NICE WORK!
There's a nice flutter / wobble, that's partly to do with the start / stop regions of the looping function, but it sounds so nice, it's a keeper in my library. Well done ")

Re: NEW Nord Sample Editor 3 Discussion
Hi
1st time I'm using the editor.... my use case is: I downloaded a program with custom samples into my NS3 and would like to edit the volume on some keys. How to edit the program? The editor allows only to import new wav from scratch or an existing project. Of course I do not ave the project corresponding to my program.... Maybe I'm wrong but a such simple task is not possible, or I'm wrong?

Once the NSMP file has been created, that's it, you can't reverse it or decompile / extract it.florence wrote:Hi

the only way to edit the file would be to get the source audio and start from scratch with NSE3

oh!!!! that's a serious limitation... thanks for the quick answer

Re: NEW Nord Sample Editor 3 Discussion
Technically speaking it's not a limitation.florence wrote:oh!!!! that's a serious limitation... thanks for the quick answer
here's why and I'm surprised people haven't realised this.
Say you're a sound programmer doing this for a living, like I used to do. I developed soundware for different instruments using proprietary formats. most formats can be reprogrammed etc and passed on, though that breaks contract with the developer / programmer's copyright. A particular product uses a particular format that once created with the software tools, cannot be reverse engineered, like nord. The file can be modified to the instrument and from there, the filters and other functions can be created / modified and a program / patch can be created.
What if, and yes I've thought that too on the basis of needing to fix an nsmp file due to poor looping or sample issues, what if that developer found that their work had been reverse engineered?
yes, the nord sample format is unique and ideal for us, but the problem is this, unless you include the original wave data and the project file, for a user to fix or edit, which if this was done correctly before distribution, wouldn't be needed to be issued with, then you have this issue. the nsmp / nsmp3 file is a compiled sample plus instructions for the chosen instrument format.
What I would say is this, when working with NSE 3, learn to use the loop and preview functions, tune in to what each sample is doing and do a global edit for the most part, you can then change individual key samples where appropriate, export it to your machine, try it out, listen to it carefully, if you're not happy, delete the nsmp file but go back to the project file and adjust.
one useful tip here is normalisation, that is your friend. try the export with and without normalisation of all samples to see what suits you best.

yes understood, it is a good way to protect the file... and the original owner of the file.

Am I correct that the NSE3 doesn’t support velocity layers or round-robins? If true, I would assume that this is just a limitation of the Nord sample format???
Re: NEW Nord Sample Editor 3 Discussion
you're absolutely right. sample is single velocity, no layer or multi-sampling. it's just the way the sample synth is designed. the work arounds in some aspects are to use velocity to filter and volume envelopes depending on the program being created.S h a w wrote:Thanks for the feed back. I've kept your file because I just love the sound of it. nice layered as octave layer panel A and B.

Re: NEW Nord Sample Editor 3 Discussion
Thanks again. I’m thinking to do a sample set of Moog One patches. The single layer sample is a limitation, but also forces creativity. One thing I like about sampling the Moog One is that is it very easy to make stereo samples where the left and right side are similar yet different enough to create some really cool patches.
Really looking forward to the Wave 2.
