The USB cable which comes with Nord Stage 3 and Nord Grand is OK, but I tend to go for more heavy duty cables

Yep, ok, did 10 plug-unplug cycles with the provided cable. Nord Sound Manager was open before I plugged it in.

With the provided cable: failed to sync 8/10 times

With a known good, heavy duty cable: failed 4/10 times

I noted the error messages this time: "buffer size error," or "message CRC error."

I believe I have a bad logic board here. I'm going to take it for repair.

Before jumping to that conclusion, have you tried with different USB ports and/or computers? Maybe the issue is not on the NS3 side, who knows.

to be honest, I've seen this before. Could I please ask if you're using a desktop or laptop, if so, what? are you using any USB adaptors (USBC to USb 3.0 as an example?

I would agree that it looks like an issue with the USB on the nord, come across it myself. but I do a series of diagnostics first before I come to my final theory,
