Electro 6D Factory Restore ('LIVE' Banks)

Post by monsterjazzlicks »

Hi folks,

I recently bought an Electro 6D and have now had a little bit of an opportunity to sit down with it, finally.

I have looked for an answer on here to the following question but have only found loosely related threads, as far as I could see:

Obviously, because the Nord Memory Protect is ON (by default) it is not possible to accidentally overwrite the E6D presets. But with the LIVE presets (by definition of the very term 'live'!) these can be tweaked in the moment and require no 'store as/too' process.

And so, unwittingly I made some edits to the latter but would like to have them returned to their default state. If I was to perform a FACTORY RESTORE then would this also revert back the LIVE bank inclusions, please? It looks like there are only 8 presets in this 'mode' housed in banks 'A' and 'B'?

From the time I have spent so far noodling on the instrument I much prefer some of the LIVE bank presets to the 'regular' ones. To my ears they sound fatter and more expressive; however this opinion may be influenced by the way I play and also the genre of my music. Hence I would like to have them back again.

I hope I have explained my question clearly/correct enough.

Many thanks in advance for any kind assistance offered.

Best,

Paul David Seaman

... in addition to the aforementioned the music store advised me, when I bought my E6D, that it had arrived in August 2019 and so it will probably need to be updated to the latest OS anyway. In any event, I wanted to check on the predicament with the LIVE bank restorations in the first instance.

Live banks don't have a defacto state in particular. They may or may not get reset to shipped state when you do a factory restore. Keep in mind the state will change anytime you make a change to any parameter when active. They aren't intended to be anything more than a live scratch pad and are inherently NOT static.

Would it not serve a better purpose for you simply to set them to what ever state you'd like them to be in? (or better yet, find some patches you like and program them to user banks/programs so you will always have them available for use.

Thanks a lot cgrafx,

In which case I may just be better taking the plunge and 'restoring' it anyway. Overall I may gain rather than lose.

cgrafx,

It looks, to me, like there are 8 locations on the E6D for saving LIVE performance programs. Bank A and Bank B - 4 slots in each.

btw. my current 'version' is OS 2.04.

cgrafx,

I have messed with them all now so I think I should just make a 'restore' and see what results are produced. Then, if the action does indeed set the LIVE patches back I can immediately save them to a more permanent slot. I guess you are meaning save them to (what appears to be) the 'empty' banks - bank 'P' onwards...

Cheers.

Hi folks,

I have been trying for a couple of hours to update my E6D and also restore it, but to no avail (please see attach.).

I have d/l the drivers and s/w but when I try to update the OS it says "please connect your Electro synth". Same results when I try to open the Sound Manager.

Do the Electro d/l's work with the Electro 6D ( am assuming YES, any Electro model is fine)? Or maybe I have d/l from the wrong page?:

https://www.nordkeyboards.com/downloads ... -electro-6

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Hi Paul,

a lot is written in the update instructions: if the latest Windows USB drivers from Nord have been installed and the OS update does not work I recommend you to try with a different, maybe shorter USB cable - by the way which one are you using and how long is it, and do you connect the Electro directly to a USB port of the computer or do you use a USB hub in between which you should avoid?

If this does not help you should take the latest of recommended steps in the Update instructions:

In the rare cases where the operating system in the Nord instrument have become damaged and the unit does not start properly, the Update Utility will be unable connect to the unit. If this is the case, start up the Nord while simultaneously holding down the Shift and Store buttons on the panel. This will start the unit in the Update mode, which makes it possible for the Update Utility to access and update the operating system in a Nord that does not start properly.

Cheers Schorsch,

This seems to be working!

A pop-up on my PC just appeared saying "setting up new Nord device".
