Re: Nord Stage 3 rev2 vs rev1
No regrets with the earlier NS3C now that I have a solution to the ARP button proximity to the playing keys!
Really wish it had music stand mounts though.
As great as the Grand keyboard feels, the lack of a synth and two panels leaves it out of the picture.Having a Compact and an HA88 gives me massive pianos and synths(4 panels) >;)
Also like creating a 'Lowery' organ which uses sawtooth and pulse waveforms.
Massive renditions of "Chest Fever" and "The Shape I'm In",with the Vintage leaky B3 model mixed in for sinewaves.
Obviously route the non B3 sounds away from Leslie.....The Electro or Grand won't get me there.Stage is as close as it gets with ergonomics/logistics in mind.
Many of us still use more than one keyboard,in spite of the convenience of the Stage series.Others have Motif,Kronos,Fantom, which do many things well beyond the menu of Nord.
Those are nice to have too,I just prefer two Stages to simplify my OS in a live setting. On gigs that use less acoustic piano I use an NS3C and a C2D.
I prefer the pianos on the Compact over the 76 mainly because of the lighter feel, the HA action is in between and suitable for all but the most demanding piano passages, well beyond my capabilities.....

Re: Nord Stage 3 rev2 vs rev1
FWIW, I checked with Sweetwater, and they confirmed the shipment they just got in is the new version, whatever it is called. I don't believe it will make any discernible difference, but given I switch between piano and EP a lot, maybe the "Type" button will help with that. Very minor. Mostly excited to be joining the Nord family next week.
I lead worship on keys and sing, and have found it really disruptive to have to move to my computer when I wanted to change something. I am primarily looking forward to and expanded sound library and the ability to make quick changes right from the keyboard. I picked up a BigSky also, so very excited about the tonal possibilities coming my way.

Anyone received the newest version? Mine arrives today, so I will try and confirm the physical changes.

Here are pictures of the top panel of an NS3C RevB unit. The most valuable additions for me were the brackets for the music rest.

The stand brackets were the main thing I was going to look for. Glad to hear they did add it. Piano "Type" will be somewhat handy, but I expect all else is the same.ajstan wrote:Here are pictures of the top panel of an NS3C RevB unit. After playing with the Type button, it is nice to have, but in the most minor sense. It saves you a millisecond of scrolling by keeping you within the models of the type, but several of the Types only have a few models, so seems like overkill there. And I don't usually change pianos that way. I would have them in separate programs, so using this on the fly, where you would appreciate the time savings, really doesn't happen.richperson wrote:The stand brackets were the main thing I was going to look for. Re: Nord Stage 3 rev2 vs rev1
I've been playing Nords over 14 years. I had NS73C, NE3SW73, NS2SW73, NS2HA76, NE4SW61. Currently I'm a happy owner of NS3SW73.
I had some minor issues with NE3SW73 - blown fuse. Also had several issues with NS2SW73 - had to clean the rubber parts under the keybed almost every year as some notes didn't sound properly due to the dust under these rubber parts. I blame Fatar for that.
There are 2 types of issues:
1. Fault discovered just during first few days of usage. That's normally caused by bad design, firmware or hw parts. It's important to properly prototype and test before releasing a new product. Also important to do quality tests for mass production.
Nord is usually is very good on that. I don't know if they have plenty of manual checks. That could be potentially a problem if they extended their stuff which is not yet up to the process or not suitable for that role.
2. Issues in couple of months or later. That's related to my case with NS2SW73. Basically Fatar keybed issue. In that case Nord has to press Fatar to improve their quality or replace with another manufacturer.
