Curious.... NS2 vs new Nord Piano 2

Post by PianoManChuck »

Just curious about the NS2 (which I have) vs the new Nord Piano 2 that was just released/announced at NAMM.

I don't use the organ section on my NS2 at all. Just the piano and synth sections. And now that the new Nord Piano 2 is out, am I correct in assuming that I can use anything in the sample library with the new Nord Piano 2, and it would be just like putting anything in the sample library into my NS2 synth section? In other words, is the new Nord Piano 2 just like an NS2 but without the organ section? Or am I oversimplifying things here... ?

Oversimplifying.

Compared to the NS2, besides the organ section, the NP2 is also missing at least:

... a lot of sample memory (128 mb vs. 380 mb)
... synth section (it can load the samples that can be loaded into the synth section, but has no synth functions of its own, nor can it process the loaded samples nearly as extensively)
... aftertouch, pitch stick, modulation wheel
... the ability to split/layer more than one piano sound and one sample sound at a time
... the ability to incorporate external MIDI sound sources into its own patches
... additional effects
... multiple output routing

Thank you. Now I feel much more comfortable with my NS2. At first glance with the new Piano 2 I thought that THIS is what I should have gotten. But now that I see there's a lot more lacking than I have in the NS2 (even without the organ section), I know I made the right choice with the NS2. Its still my favorite keyboard (more so than my Kronos!).

Piano can only use the Piano Library, right? Where as the Stage can use Piano and Sample Libraries (I think)

Nord Piano uses piano library.

Nord Piano 2 and Nord Stage 2 use both the Piano and Sample libraries. (But the Stage can hold more sample library samples, can process them more extensively, and can play two of them at once.)

Right, to make it easier: NordPiano2 Sample sections is more close to the NordElectro3 one, but with more memory (128M vs 68M) and on NP2 you can also layer&split Sample/Piano sections across the keyboard (on NE3 you can't )

NS2 instead has a Sample-based synth derived from the NordWave.. quite a difference
