Re: Mellow upright
I have the same feeling about the Mellow upright... gorgeous on headphones... but I wonder how this would work in the live context...
I did a 3hr cocktail piano/vocal gig on some Roland piano at the weekend (I forget the model but it wasn't a RD.. nice action, supernatural piano sounds...) and that sound was pretty nice over the PA speakers... would the mellow piano sound too muffled I wonder (esp with all the people talking over the music) ? Would be interesting to find out...

Re: Mellow upright
Had a gig with a covers band on saturday - the big surprise for me was the mellow piano. I don't know how / why, but it cut through the mix really well even on lively numbers. It has a more 'full' sound than some of the other pianos. My only frustration is its lack of dynamic range or bark when I hit it harder.

Re: Mellow upright
I know what you're meaning... Just uploaded Large Mellow Upright, how am I supposed to get any sleep with this beauty in my NS2, unplayed?JonnyHightower wrote:The Mellow Upright was released a few weeks ago, but I didn't load it into my NS2 until last night, replacing the Queen (Bosendorfer) Upright. Wow! It's gorgeous. If I wasn't married I'd have played it all night. It wouldn't cut through a mix but as solo instrument (or for recording) I could lose myself in its warmth and never come out again. The limited memory is a pain as you really have to pick and choose what samples you have in there, but as I only bought my NS2 a month ago I hope they don't bring out a version 3 just yet!I'd love to get rid of the CP80 as I don't like it on its own, but it's used in some cool-sounding programs. Hmmm. I replaced the Bosendorfer and one of the Harpsichords with the Fazioli Large, which is also quite nice. But I don't think I'll ever remove the Mellow Upright for anything. Again, thank you Nord!

Re: Mellow upright
Yes, wow, this is an incredible sound. Very much puts me in mind of a sound I've been wanting, that Rudy Van Gelder Blue Note sound, very warm, almost muffled.
On my Stage 2, I have the Fazioli XXL and this mellow upright... the others (the D, the Yamaha, and the Imperial) can be swapped in and out as needed.
Great great sound, and to top it off, I just imported a lot of great Andromeda A6 samples I copped online, plus a bunch of new samples from the new Sample Library;
Yes, memory is an issue, but then, the idea of getting just the really high quality sounds and samples you need in a super simple, super easy to edit fashion is not that bad a trade off.

Re: Mellow upright
Inspired by the latest Rai Thistlethwayte video, I decided to give this one another go. Reading back through the thread, it looks like I last tried it with my old Electro 3HP. I've done a few hardware upgrades, so memory is no longer the issue.
I first loaded it into my Electro 6D and MIDI'd it to my Roland RD-800. What a wonderful sound. It just absolutely sings! I played classical, jazz and a bit of mellow rock, enjoying every minute of it. It's just so musical sounding.
This morning I loaded it into my Stage 2EX HP. I'm still tinkering with the velocity dynamics, and have to wait until my next rehearsal to finalize the EQ settings. But the finger to sound connection with the HP action is really nice!
I'm looking forward to playing some more music with this sound.

Re: Mellow upright
We seem to have the exact same taste in piano sounds, Rusty Mike.
If I had more memory in my NE5 this is probably the next one I'd add as XL.

Re: Mellow upright
+1
My favorite sample since it was issued. Play Lennon‘s Imagine: it sounds like the original recording. Plus it has a veeeerrrry nice stereo staging
