patiently waiting...

Everything about Nord keyboards in general; which one to choose, the sound manager, sample editor, and general discussion about the sample and piano libraries.

they need to support the current version and one version back with all that is technically feasible/reasonable - and even then, only maybe until they are some period of time out of production - 3 yrs? 4 yrs?

I see no obligation whatsoever to support further back than that ... and if they happen to because it's an easy port, then consider it a gift.

There comes times when business decisions have to be made, and that sometimes impacts legacy support. Nord made the decision sometime back to move to version 5 of the Piano Library, which immediately excluded instruments like the Electro 2. Despite leaving the instrument behind, it was important for Nord to move forward.

It's understood also that purchasing technology hardware automatically puts boundaries on how upgradeable it can be. Even in the situation of a custom-built PC, hardware components have to be upgraded/replaced to accommodate new features. Come down to it, the only truly resilient part is the case.

My point is that anyone buying technology-based hardware (like keyboards) needs to purchase with eyes wide open. Compared to competitors, Nord is better than most with their product support and longevity approach. But there has to come a time when they have to press forward, which leaves something behind.

In addition to the Stage 2EX, I own an Electro 4D. It has measly piano memory and no promise whatsoever of getting any kind of software enhancements ever again. But it still makes me grin wide every time I turn it on.

Same here. I returned a NE6D for a 4D for a 5 reasons :
- save some money for CP88 ( preordered)
- i don't need always splits.
- better organ parameters. (and i use them with a minivent 2 )
- better clavinet parameters ( pick up buttons)
- more simple layout.
NE6D has other advantages. I know.

Well, good question.... I think it differs somewhat depending on how capable the hardware in each model is to run new software, also maybe how many generations the products are behind the current version. For example Nord Piano 3, released in 2016, is only one generation behind the newest Nord Piano 4, while Electro 4, released in 2012, is two generations behind the current Electro 6 and, according to the release date being 4 years earlier than the Piano 3, is likely based on an older and presumably less capable hardware platform.

Nord Piano 3 is also still part of Nord‘s current line of products on their webpage while Electro 4 for example is in the „legacy“ section.

Asked the German distributor today if he knows when NE6 OS update and/or Enhanced EPs will be available. He wrote me that Clavia is working hard to manage the updates (for NE6 and propably for NP4 I think) within the first quarter of 2019.
He also wrote that Nord didn‘t give informations so far if the release date of the „Enhanced EPs“ for these series would be the same or close to.

Unfortunately the Electro 6 update does not include the feature for the organ to steal the 9th drawbar, like on the original Hammonds.
