There is one thing from the CP that I'd like to see on Nord keyboards : the audio over USB input / output that allows to have your laptop or iOS sound routed to the keyboard main outputs. Great.

Sometime I wonder if Nord knew what Yamaha, Korg, Vox or Dexibel were preparing.

Nord did :
- seamless transition,
- audio input routing to main outputs,
- 3 sounds layers on the electro,
- new piano sounds like the Royal Grand, the Digital Piano family (layered, dx ...)
- physical drawbars on the stage

Clavia is not sleeping, they're ahead, leading !

There's one design decision Yamaha made that would be nice to see on Nords... that rotary encoder on the far left, which allows a press for Enter. Would that pacify those clamoring for Pending Load?

(On the flip side, not a fan of all those visible (raised?) screws on the main control surface.)

Interesting proposition from Yamaha for sure. Almost like they took a Nord and painted it black though... its miles apart from the menu based stuff Yamaha usually churns out (but ultimately i guess thats a good thing, they realised their old system was cumbersome for a live performer)

Visually the black looks smart and I like the silver knobs, they make it looks quite pretty :)

Unless they have been doing some fresh resampling it seems its still pushing legacy samples as its main sounds, which from my previous experience with the CP4 were very thin and synthetic sounding compared to the Nords. The CFX has been floating around in the CP4 and other models for some time, as has the Imperial sample of theirs. The S700 piano sample is one I have often wanted to test though.

I might have to call by the music shop soon and see if they have one to play with for a bit.

If you listen to the Yamaha demos, I don't think they'll capture any Electro or Stage users who use regularly and care about their organ sound.

The Electro has 3 engines but only one can of them can be controlled externally (While this disables the one of the engines on the Electro. The CP73/88 basically as also 3 engines (sections) and does not seem to support any external MIDI device to control one or all of the engines. Such limitations shouldn't be hardware restrictions.
To support an external MIDI device on the CP73/88 via the USB host port should be easily accomplished by an MIDI firmware update. It this was possible, multiple MIDI devices could be daisy chained, over MIDI which actually is a MIDI DIN feature.

Edit: the just announced Akai Force has a USB host port to connect external MIDI devices.

The CP73 does look interesting and quite a shift from their normal menu based boards. Not really a direct competitor
to the Stage 2 HA76 that I have but I think the pianos would suit my Yamaha DXR10 speakers better.
