Hi
I've been having a bunch of issues with my Nord Stage 2 where most of the knobs ( mostly in reverb and synth section) the values are all over the place, meaning that when I turn the knob more than half way, the values are still under 1.0! It never acts the same really. Multiple knobs are giving me the same issue and in the span of 6 months, one by one all of them are failing which is making using the instrument highly frustrating and useless. I would like to add, that roughly half of the failing knobs are also knobs that are barely ever used, so the problem shouldn't be that of hardware wear of use / lack of use.
Also lately, I've been having a major issue which is the following. All the sounds goes off mid-gig (whether it's piano, organ or synth or a mixture of all) when you least expect it, just for a few seconds and it's rendering my Nord Stage 2 highly unreliable. I've eliminated other factors that could cause the issue i.e. new cables, no sustain pedals, different channels and even mixers and the problem still happens intermittently. It might be after 2 hours of playing sometimes even less, and also sometimes it doesn't happen although frequency seems to be increasing by time. What I haven't tried yet is seeing if the issue also happens on the headphones output too.
One thing I also noted is the way the sound goes away. It doesn't cut sharply like when you have a loose connection or anything similar. It's like someone quickly turns the volume down (smooth but quick fade out and fades in just the same way). Sometimes it happens 3-4 times repeatedly and then it settles back to normal for (hopefully) a while.
Any help and updates on this issue is greatly appreciated. I don't have any substitutes for this keyboard so I really can't just send it overseas for weeks just to try to fix it. (probably will take long since problem is intermittent)
Thanks
Izzy

Re: Nord Stage 2 Knob and Sound Issues!! Help
Sounds like there could be a HW problem with your keyboard; maybe the part that reads the values of the knobs has become faulty somehow (or there is some electronic noise that impacts it). I guess a faulty reading of the volume potentiometers could cause the fading.
I'd suggest you contact Nord and talk to them; maybe they know what kind of issue this could be?

Thanks for your reply, could be. However the sound fading is something else, as the knobs affected don't have anything to do with gain or volume. For example the "drive" knob in the effects section can only go up, as value 0 = no drive and the higher the value the louder it gets.
I guess I'll have t contact Nord.
Thanks for your help!

Re: Nord Stage 2 Knob and Sound Issues!! Help
First impulse is that a ribbon cable inside the machine may have come loose over time. That would explain the broad and intermittent failure of various encoders, as well as possibly audio fading as values/switches are misreported to the CPU.
Take it to a service technician.
Hopefully, it’s an easy fix.

Could be some ribbon is loose, doesn't look very likely the way the values shoot back and forth all over the place. But I'll give it a try! Thanks
