Is it worth waiting for the next North Synth?

Everything about Nord keyboards in general; which one to choose, the sound manager, sample editor, and general discussion about the sample and piano libraries.

Is it worth waiting for the next North Synth?

Post by Eumel »

Hi Guys,

Do ya think it is worth waiting for the next Nord synth?

- when it will be issued
- will it have 61 keys
- will it have a better keybed
- will it handle samples
- will it have aftertouch
- will it have a vocoder
- will it have more sophistictaed reverb options
- ...

Your comments are appreciated,

Cheers,

Eumel

if referring to the lead line I got a second hand nla1 and am enjoying it very much, I spent over a year debating whether to get it, a year I could've spent playing it.
But I'll likely get the next iteration from Nord, especially if it comes with 61 keys

+1 on the 61 keys, I have a NL2X, I won't buy any new Nord if it's not a 61 keys....But if you wait for a new Nord, I don't expect a new before one or two years, they have a lot to do with the new Stage 3, the Electro and the Piano....Good to develop new product but at a time, you have to focus on building and delivering the orders more than trying to find new products....

I find I can cover a lot of sonic territory with my 4 octave A1. I can fit all my mono solos in (sometimes I have PB set to one octave ). If I set all my pads and brassy synths to the correct octave range, they also fit without any problems. Curious to hear about pure synth applications that really need 5 octaves over 4. I'm very sure it's a common requirement (maybe moreso when used as a controller?), but I haven't had to think about it once that I can recall. And the octave shift buttons give you up to 2 octaves either way at the push of a button, should it be necessary.

Hi CountFosco,

At the moment I have a NS2EX 88 as a ‚sound generator‘ and as a 88 heavy weighted keyboard. On top of it I have an Arturia 61 key MIDI keyboard for playing orgen (here‘s where I definitely need the 61 keys) and synth stuff. Instead of the plain 61 key MIDI keyboard I‘d like to have a 61 key ‚sound generator‘ - preferibly a VA synth from Nord. I definitely neither want to have 3 keyboards nor have anything in a rack. I‘d like to keep my setup handy as it is today, as I have to set it up several times per week.

Thanks,

Eumel

Yeah, I'm in a similar situation. I use the E5d + A1 combination in two bands, so there is a lot of setting up and breaking down involved. I guess the compromise I make is playing all my pianos on the semi weighted E5 - I'd definitely prefer weighted. But the second keyboard to cover organ + synth is the tricky one, without going with an external module. I like your method of using a weighted Stage + controller.

What you can do in this case on the A1 is do a split and tune the same sound down and octave on the left half of the split-
