Restore NS2 programs to my new NS3
Restore NS2 programs to my new NS3
Hi,
i have upgraded from Stage 2 to Stage 3. Is there a chance to restore the programs (over 100!) from my full backup of the NS2 to my new NS3?
That would save my life!
Thank you
Thomas

Re: Restore NS2 programs to my new NS3
Nope, that is not possible. There are a bunch of threads covering this - the NS2 is 7 years old and the NS3 is new so the programs are not compatible. Have fun learning your new instrument!

Re: Restore NS2 programs to my new NS3
What the actual hell.
I was searching for the same thing and I am so disappointed right now.
I was actually waiting with buying the NS3 until that sample converter came out.
But now it means I can sell that thing.
I have very complex multi layer presets that are very important for my live shows and not quickly recreateable.
And the stage being old isnt really an excuse, is it? The 2EX presets won't work either.
How can you put out such a nice machine that a lot of previous NS2 owners will buy and then not think about that.
I am super sad about this, some features of the 3 are super helpful and I waited long for them.
Man. Why.

Because it's a completely different instrument and architecture.IndianerJonas wrote:Why.

Re: Restore NS2 programs to my new NS3
This is no surprise, NS1 to NS2 was the same. Many keyboards do not do this, in fact most don't from one model to the next. The whole point of a new model (other than commerce of course) is to add new features, that usually means redesigning/adding to the architecture. Can't believe people spend big $K on these boards without some prior knowledge of these things.
Your point about the 2EX - same architecture as the 2 so of course that won't work.
Jump in, bite the bullet, and learn/reprogram the new instrument if you need the new features badly enough.

Maybe. But it could have been done, I think. It is quite a dealbreaker for such an expensive product.stringtapper wrote:Because it's a completely different instrument and architecture.IndianerJonas wrote:Why.
Is any word out whether something like a converter will be developed or are all the artists that play more than standard presets just screwed?
Is this forum read by officials?
Thank you.

Yeah, I might have to consider that once the upset wears off.dhbp-nord wrote:

I am so disappointed right now, I had to safe up so long.
Recreating my presets will easily take a week, no kidding. They took a long time in the first place and are substantial to play live.
I know recreating things can hold new creative ways and discoveries and so on blabla.

But it is work that I didn't expected to do from a - apart from that so easy and userfriendly - company.
It sounds like something the other big names pull of all the time.

Re: Restore NS2 programs to my new NS3
This has always been the case with Nord instruments. I had the NS2 for 5 years and spent hours on programming. I have uploaded many programs to this forum. I don't use *any* standard presets at all. When I got the NS3, I deleted all of the factory programs. It took me about 25 hours to program ~75 new programs for the band tunes I am doing. But, I enjoy programming, and can tell you that the NS3 is easier to program and has more powerful features that make this possible.

Re: Restore NS2 programs to my new NS3
This is something every keyboard player has to contend with on a regular basis. Technology changes. For Nord to bake backwards compatibility into new products would only cost time (money) and then put all kinds of limitations/complications on the architecture. Consider the NS3 as a new keyboard instead of a mod to the NS2.
I bet it takes you half the time to recreate your patches, if you already know your way around the NS2. Consider it a challenge!

Re: Restore NS2 programs to my new NS3
PS don't forget at least the samples (NSMP) are indeed compatible, using the Sample Converter. If you had made custom samples or have favourites from the Nord Library you can bring them forward.
