Drum loops to have basic rhythms to play along on the NS2

Post by pablomastodon »

FINALLY! After multiple attempts at trying to be too ambitious, I have simplified my strategy -- sorry, but I'm new at this upload posting thing.

Here are three samples of loopy drum things together with three associated programs for their use.

Please understand that these are intended only as crude examples of what is possible. The live drum samples were lifted from gig recordings and are not production quality for technical reasons, mostly monitor bleed into drum mics.

Comments gratefully appreciated...
old 1DrpSteppers.ns2p
on my SW73, the high Eb triggers root note one drop sample. high Ab (below the Eb) that triggers root note of steppers sample. Mod wheel crossfades bass and organ in middle zone. control pedal drives delay amount on both pianos.

Fat Mix B 1 Drop.ns2p
high Ab triggers root note of one drop sample. high Eb (above the Ab) triggers root note of "riddimwise" version of same one drop sample (no kick).

damn.nsmp
considering how long this loop is, doesn't really take up too much space -- roughly same as average Mellotron sample

Deadweight.ns2p
high Eb triggers root note of sampled loop. loop written as G1 sequence, then recorded live with some PW modulation of square LFO on filter in bars 9-12 of 12-bar pattern -- keeps things a little less boring when working in 16-bar song structure

Re: Triggering a Loop/Longer File?

Post by Johannes »

Great samples and programs! Excellent loop points, very intuitive to play and jam along the great beat loops!

I have still the idea to create a large set of drum loops, say, 12 different styles, each assigned to a key of an octave, and then have it at different speeds in 10bpm steps over the full range of the keybed. This way, you would basically obtain a full set of rythm accompagniements like on any workstation, availably easily via one slot in one sample file.
Only problem is where to get the beats from - while using a VSTi such as GrooveAgent would be very easy, it would not allow to share it due to license restrictions, and I did not yet find freely available high quality samples to create this sample, but I reckon it could be useful to many, just to have a simple way of playing along some standard beats without external hard- or software. Maybe Nord want to release something like this one day?

Anyways, kudos Pablo for these inspiring patches!!

Maybe something like this http://www.vst4free.com/index.php?plug-ins=Drumkits could also be used...

Hi Johannes. Do you know if anyone has come up with a solution like you describe above? I would very much like to have some drum loops, apart from creating them myself (I don't have a looper.) I've downloaded one loop but it would be so much better to have a variety of them all accessible from the same slot.
Thanks.
