Röyksopp: Vision One - nasty bass synth sound wanted
Hi, I just can´t figure how to recreate Röyksopps fantastic nasty bass sound from the third tune on the Junior album, and would be very happy for any help.
Sounds to me like one or two DCO´s as base with some hard compression, pulsewidth modulation and some LP filtering, but I just can´t come close enough imitating it..
It starts quite cool at 0:44, but gets f$&% crazy from 1:48!
If anyone knows what they´ve been using (synth, prossessors, effects) on this, please share!

I think it is just a saw tooth passed through a high pass filter (and set the synth section 1 Oct down). It seems to have a chorus effect too.
Next time, please post a link to the song. That way it makes it easy to find.

Thanks for your answer.
There might be something to that high pass filter, but I´m far from nailing it yet, specially that nasty distorted sound that varies in tempo.

I believe this sound is a lot more complex than a simple sawtooth or pulsewave with filtering and distortion.

Re: Röyksopp: Vision One - nasty bass synth sound wanted
A few months ago, I tried to recreate the bass sound from their song "Monument", which is quite similar. I found a few discussions on kvr on this topic:

But I think the synth engine in the NS2 is too limited to really get close to the sound.

This is the closest I got on the NS2. The ingredients are pulse wave, phaser and distortion/cabinet sim/rotary. Though I found that the "NoFundSaw" wave works even better than a square pulse wave.

That sounds really goodteatinker wrote:This is the closest I got on the NS2. The ingredients are pulse wave, phaser and distortion/cabinet sim/rotary. Though I found that the "NoFundSaw" wave works even better than a square pulse wave.
I think that is as close you could get with the NS2 virtual analog synth engine.
However, Im working on a sample set that will come even closer.
I will upload it here when it´s done.

That's a really verrrry weird sound - but I love it. Let's see what you can get. Good luck! Does anybody know how the original sound was produced exactly? Must be somtheing like described by NordPH

If you google for the Röyksopp bass sound, you'll find lots of threads and theories on how this sound was made, but apparently, no-one knows for sure. Röyksopp themselves even joked about it:
