If you’re looking for a sound that was definitely recorded in the 70s, you are NOT looking for Simmons drums, as those didn’t become commercially available until 1981 (and prototypes were recorded in 1980).

Do you have an example?

It just occurred to me that macco00 might be referring to the Synare drum synths made in the 70’s and 80’s. if you do a search using your favourite search engine you will see some very notable users, including Mr Jarre.

Just a thought :?:

Can you attach a mp3 with the sound you are looking for? It might be a sound the Stage synth could recreate without a sample.

This is a Synare from the late 70's. The drummer in my band back then used three of them:

To hear it, go to the 1 minute mark in this Donna Summer song:

I'd love to get this sound. I don't think a sample would work, the pitch, sweep length and decay times need to be adjustable depending on the tempo of the song.

You can do that by setting the Filter in oscillation mode (maximum resonance) and with the filter modulation envelope you control the the pitch Decay (and use 0 Attack). You might need to play with the Frequency to "tune" the oscillation and with the Freq Mod dial to set the depth of the modulation.

There's also frequency modulation on that oscillator (the grittiness).

So turn the LFO as fast as it will go, and turn up the LFO modulation to filter cutoff, as well. Also probably not a 24 dB moog filter. I'd experiment with the others to see which comes closest to that reedy sound.
