DX7 and Rhodes - light Voices and Pad

Post by WannitBBBad »

This is a simple program with a light touch of voices and a pad behind the DX7 and Rhodes that I put together for a Christmas Song. As dated as a DX7 sounds sometimes, what I was looking for didn't sound quite right with a Grand or Upright - the same song in a slightly different style for a different singer might change that outcome. I'm somewhat anxious to try this with a few of the new Rhodes settings as well. Listen with headphones if possible to catch the background voices and pad coming in on the control pedal, you might have another use for them on something you're working on too. Take care

A D7 sound with a Rhides layered is always a suoer start for that kind of song....I use it on a program for Purple Rain and the DX7, slightly adjusted, always give this upper register that helps to cut thru....great sound, thanks

I am a new Stage 3 owner and have the most basic question: Which electric piano sound on the 3 has the most similar sound to a Rhodes piano. Obviously the electric piano sounds are not labeled as such. ThanksQ

The Piano Library at the Nord website (https://www.nordkeyboards.com/sound-lib ... no-library) is a good starting point for information on the pianos available. For a Rhodes, I use EP1 the most, followed by EP7 and EP5. EP1-EP8 are all Rhodes pianos, each with their own tonal characteristics based on vintage, amplification (or not), and "voicing" of the tines. On a Rhodes, the tine for each key can be adjusted in relationship to its magnetic pickup to get the tone desired. When Styx was big on the charts, I took a Rhodes that sounded like the EP1 and adjusted each tine to get to something similar to EP5. The amplification used in the recordings also mattered, as my Rhodes sounded quite different direct than it did through the Fender Twin Reverb with Roland CE-1 Chorus/Preamp that I used for some time. I hope this helps, take care.
