Forum rules
How to get the MP3-Player:
Upload a MP3 file where you play some notes using your sample.
Click the "PLACE INLINE" button after uploading the MP3 sample in order to automatically create a Flash MP3 player in your post!
Also check the Forum Rules, in particular rule #6 about the sharing of programs and samples.

I don't own a Stage 3 (yet), but this sounds like they could have used Lyle Mays's classic lead patch as a starting point, which was an Oberheim Two-Voice (or Four-Voice, depending on who's telling the story). For an audio comparison, seek out "The Search", by the Pat Metheny Group, that sound is featured for the first minute or so.

I'd try a square wave, maybe mix in a tiny bit of noise, add unison for thickness, experiment with glide (does the synth section allow for glide to be triggered only when playing legato? The instrument in the video definitely does that, but the S3 manual doesn't say), roll off the highs using the LPF, and add some FX (chorus/verb). That should get you in the neighborhood.

Having said all that... I'll gladly defer to someone with a real S3 nearby.
