Stage 3 - MIDI Keyboard
I followed this tutorial, but the MIDI menu options on the Stage 3 are a bit different:
I'm trying to assign Panel A to the Nord and Panel B to the external MIDI keyboard.
What should my MIDI settings look like?
Do I need to select Panel B and turn on the EXTERN section?
Thanks,
Kirby

Re: Stage 3 - MIDI Keyboard
I have a Clavinet and Solina Stings (split) assigned to Panel A. I have a Wurlitzer and a Sawtooth synth (split) assigned to Panel B. The Nord plays Panel A, the Yamaha S90 plays Panel B (via MIDI). Is this similar to what you are attempting to do Jo?

Re: Stage 3 - MIDI Keyboard
The MIDI cable goes from the Stage 3 (MIDI In) to your other keyboard (MIDI Out). Ensure the DUAL KB light is on and that the Panel B light is on (that Panel B is selected).
SHIFT+MIDI
Screen 1 of 4, LOCAL CONTROL: ON
Screen 2 of 4 (see above)
Screen 3 of 4, CONTROL CHANGE MODE: SEND AND RECEIVE
Screen 4 of 4, TRANSPOSE MIDI AT: IN
You’ll need to configure your external keyboard to accept MIDI on Channel 15.

Re: Stage 3 - MIDI Keyboard
The external keyboard needs to send (transmit) on channel 15, rather than accept (receive).kirbyjwilson wrote:The MIDI cable goes from the Stage 3 (MIDI In) to your other keyboard (MIDI Out).

So I'd similarly say that the cable (in terms of signal flow) needs to go FROM the other keyboard's MIDI Out TO the Nord's MIDI In, the reverse of the way you put it. This alternate way of describing it doesn't make any functional difference (as long as it's those two ports that are being connected), but thinking of it that way may help conceptually, in terms of understanding and keeping tracking of what's going where, from where.

Re: Stage 3 - MIDI Keyboard
Man, if i disable Dual-KB i can play the sound with the RD-2000 keys. If i turn ON the Dual-KB.... it's gone.
Damn Roland!
Figure it out.... MIDI Chanel on RD, must be assigned on other spot. Damn!

Re: Stage 3 - MIDI Keyboard
If you intend to play the entire Panel B, then DUAL KB should be off -- although I'm not sure if that is your intention?kirbyjwilson wrote:... Ensure the DUAL KB light is on and that the Panel B light is on (that Panel B is selected) ...
DUAL KB is for playing a single instrument in Panel B -- only.
For Panel A or B playing: Chose a MIDI channel for either Panel A or B and make your external keyboard transmit that channel. Do NOT enable the Panel from the NORD (the LED should be off); otherwise the Nord will (also) play that panel.
BTW: don't have the same MIDI channel assigned to DUAL KB as your global or Panel A/B; they take precedence left-to-right (global/panel/dual kb), so even if DUAL KB is on and have selected e.g. the Organ as it's destination, then it won't play the organ if you have the same channel used by panel B playing the piano and synth.
