so your band plays more than 400 songs and there are no overlaps in instrumentation needed to play those songs. Every single one is unique and requires a different program?

I think you need to consider re-imagining how you work playing songs.

Our band plays 5+ hours of material from the 70's to current day. In order to play those songs I need less than 30 patches.

All centered around the idea that there are basic sounds for every song (Organ (B3, Vox, Farf), Piano (acoustic, Rhodes, whirly), Strings, Horns, some synth patches and in a few cases some specific sound samples (hand claps, whistles, DOH, etc).

The bread and butter sounds are the B3, Clav, Piano, Rhodes, Strings, Horns etc. There really aren't that many signature unique sounds.

Well, kind of, anytime I'm trying to find a different feeling for each song then , I tweak a bit, I add there, smoothen Here so, yes quite more than the 30 you mentioned but no, not 300 I,haven't deleted yet a huge bunch of factory presets because I plays them first to see if they could fit.....Even if you play different songs for 4/5 hours git's, it will still be 70 songs?

Sorry i posted here meant to be in the main ns3 forum. However I use a lot of different sounds as am fussy tp get stuff sounding close to original sounds in the songs. So might have several variations of one sound for several songs. Also different arpeggiations etc. I normally like to keep all the stock sounds there as building blocks and have my user programs seperate from the factory stuff. I almost never use the same horn section for 2 songs, i do however use the same piano and organ but other than that mostly custom stuff if you can understand that.

I understand we all work differently, but my band mates enjoy an ear for detail in the sounds programmed.

What say you delete factory presets then a month down track learn some new songs and the sounds you deleted might have been close to what you need?

I agree if you only really used the basic sounds then you only need piano, organ etc most of the time, but then maybe an Electro 5D may be better for that use? Having an A1 synth on board theres prob a need for loading classic synth banks etc, then theres all the sampled sounds aswell its nice to have a few more spaces in that case.

Be great if they had a factory bank and user bank of 8 x 50 programs.

@theshinenz: please stop posting over and over the same subject. Once is sufficient, you posted 5 times the same question.

Hi,

to try and sum up your (repeated) questions, I am afraid that if this is your approach to keyboards and you need to have a library of thousand patches preloaded in, because that is what you are used to do (and your reference are workstations such as Yamaha Montage, Korg Kronos and the likes), you may not be happy with a Nord Stage 3 which is based on a "less is more" approach and as an instrument it is not much of a workstation but more of a (very) advanced stage piano.

There is not a single board which is "good for all", so you need to match your needs with each instrument specific features, without dreaming if/when they could be different than what they are. The Nord Stage 3 is what you can read from its specs and manual, it won't change. If you need more/different go for another board or be ready to get soon into the need for adding something more (a workstation?) to the NS3.

Apologies for multi posting, When I posted the first time it didnt show up in the forum so I thought it hadnt worked.

Maybe better I stick with montage then. Im sure the sound of the nord on the synth side is going to be more real sounding but with the current limitations Im guessing it may not suit my normal workflow/setup.

Thanks
