Classic Rock and other programs - Set 1

Post by WannitBBBad »

I just purchased a Nord Stage 3 and working quickly to recreate all the patches I had on my Stage 2 before selling it. Most of the classic programs are fairly simple, but I thought some of you might appreciate saving a little time with something to start with and tweak. Note that most of my programs use the control pedal morph even if only to bring instruments in and out of a mix.

With some of these programs you may need to relink the piano(s) to what you have in your Stage 3, as one of the first things I did when I got my Stage 3 was replace some pianos with smaller files to add more - I have 48 at this time.

All sample locations below 250 are pre-loaded Stage 3 locations that I don't mess with. Even if I delete samples from the stock collection to add space, I keep those sample locations open and load new samples in locations 250 and above. The programs below use all the "stock" samples except for the James Taylor song which uses "SynthPad2__CL stereo 3.0" in location 252.

It doesn't matter which sample memory locations you store new samples in your Nord Stage 3, just make sure that after you load a program, that you point the Slot A and/or Slot B Synth to the correct sample in your system. For example, if you load "SynthPad2__CL stereo 3.0" into your sample location 280 (252 in mine), then you just need to point Slot B to 280 rather than 252.

I'll revise this post as needed based on questions, so feel free to comment.
Take care.

I found the program for the 10cc song "I'm Not In Love" on this site for the Stage 2. I recreated it for the Stage 3:

James Taylor - Everyday. Left hand has the soft pad, the low note at the beginning is the right hand with the Rhodes. Top split set aside for the Ballad EP2. As noted above, this program uses a sample I loaded in slot 252 - I will follow up with a post right after this with "SynthPad2__CL stereo 3.0":

Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade of Pale. Hammonds on split keyboard with reverb. I originally set up this program heavier in effects and a little "darker" to sound closer to the original, but found it wasn't cutting through quite enough in a live setting. This is what I ended up with and I let the room do the rest. Update: After downloading, set the 2nd harmonic touch percussion on slow for the right hand and try starting out with the Leslie in stop mode, but set up a very slow Chorus 1 on the B3 to add a little "motion" to the sound but not too much. Some set the upper manual at 68860.. and lower manual at 00443 if you want tp try that as well.

Styx - Renegade. Overdriven Hammond and synth part. The synth part is played by hitting the low note and holding down the sustain pedal while hitting the high note. You have to release the sustain pedal before hitting the low note again:

Styx - Too Much Time On My Hands - see revised version at: nord-stage-3-programs-ns3p-ns3pb-files- ... 15873.html Grand Funk Railroad - I'm Your Captain - Closer to Home. Similar to the version for the Stage 2, I tried to come up with a decent "surf" sound without using a sample and will continue to tweak it:

Follow-up post. Attached is the sample to load for the James Taylor "Everyday" which uses "SynthPad2__CL stereo 3.0" in location 252. Whoooo, super, thanks a lot, I don't have a Stage 3 yet, but having a lot of users samples/programs for songs to cover was one of the reason for me to buy a Stage 2 in 2011....So, the time to save the cash and I will again have a lot of choice, thanks to you.
Sincerely

Re: Classic Rock and other programs - Set 1

I recently purchased a Nord Stage 3 after being totally blown away by the brilliant and gorgeous NS2EX programs such as the 10cc "Not In Love" layers, Van Halen "Jump" patch, Rick Wakeman Minimoog/Mellotron split, K. Emerson synths, mellotron splits/layers, Peter Gabriel CP80, etc, etc, etc. Was MASSIVELY disappointed by the absence of these and many other "classic rock" programs to the extent that I returned the NS3 after my (admittedly inept/novice) feeble attempts to replicate above sounds failed. Got a "clearance" item NS2EX-HA88 and am thrilled-except for the weight. Will of course keep for home use, but still really want a compact NS3 for band use. However, MUST have those NS2 sounds!!! Any ideas on how to get them into the NS3 Compact? Also, did the original NS/NS2 pre-EX version have the same program banks? Any and all help/suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi nordfjord, along with the Nord Stage 3 library of synth programs continuing to expand, you'll have the same capability as I had to compare synth settings for all the Stage 2 EX programs you love if you hold onto that and get a Stage 3. You mentioned looking for Van Halen's Jump, so I put it together this evening with the Stage 3. The link to the post is

Hey thanks so much, WannitBBBad!!! Because I really wanted THAT bad--and the 10cc choir/EP as well--also the Peter Gabriel chorused CP--I love the Stage 3, but I can't understand the removal of all the "classic rock/Classic Stage 2" sounds---maybe i'm just gettin' old or something--but it seems like there are way too many fairly useless/inferior programs vs. Stage 2EX....seems like Nord could have saved us the grief and retained all the old stuff while adding the newer stuff? Anyways, thanks very much for the "JUMP"!!! LOVE IT!!!
