SUPERSTITION

Post by thekiller01 »

Sorry to raise this old chestnut again, but I'm really struggling to get the right clav sound on this one.

I've tried everything I can find on the Forum, but still not really cutting it (I should have thought this would be bread and butter to the NS2?)

Has anyone PLEASE got the definitive sample/program/set up for this?

I'd be very, very grateful. Thanks.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for but it's the closest I've managed to get it.
Use a control pedal to change between the main clav sound and the "When you believe in things..." part. Also has horns split onto the top (which can definitely be improved) if your independence is good enough to get that going too!

My superstition is as follows:

1 split point
bottom part:
Slot A: Brass Sec Pop 1
Slot B: HornTrio&Baryton

top part:
Slot A: Clavinet model 'b' Clav EQ Treb & Mid only. Effects: Delay Rate = 30% Amount = 20% small amount of Stage1 reverb.

Works for me and cuts well through the mix. Just a shame there are no REALLY good horns available for the Stage...

There are many tracks in the original. If you are trying to cover this in a band, you might consider not trying to duplicate the original, but instead to apologetically make your version different. Here is one person who did this with excellent results:

... uhhh, no offense, but this comment is extremely unhelpful on a thread about trying to get the right clav sound for a specific iconic song. The youtube version you have posted *includes no clav*. It's not a bad one man rendition, but is completely unresponsive to the thread at hand. You might as well have posted the SRV version.

For the record, I don't have any great suggestions about matching the sound of the original track. I basically tend to stay on the "A" model clav with Brilliance and Treble EQ mods enabled for just about everything for which I use clav. I use auto wah 1 (or, lately, an external filter pedal) and phaser to fatten up the sound a little and add some more variety to my overall output. I do agree that this should probably be a factory pre-set available in the programs, because it is such an iconic sound and part.

Use AD setting. To make the sound stand out I use the auto wah and one of the amp models with slight distortion. Stevie plays his clavinet sound really clean, also remember that there are two clavparts you need to be two players to fully cover the song, I always lean towards that it is more important to get the groove right than to have a perfect copy of The original clavinet sound.
