Wanna B Sax
Here's a "Saxophonish" lead sample I made. Fun to play with.

Re: Wanna B Sax
Yes, fourths on all my samples. It seems to work well.

Re: Wanna B Sax
I noticed that sax is quite tricky to sample and most often samples do not sound natural, but this is quite good. Thank you!

Re: Wanna B Sax
Your are welcome. I only wish we had at least 2 velocity layers we could sample.

Re: Wanna B Sax
Layers would be great, (apart from the cost of upgrade, as I think it will only come with new hardware).
On the NS2 at least, it's not immediate to everyone that you can affect the timbre using velocity by means of the filter in the synth section. It's no substitute for having an actual different sample triggering, but you can create some nice possibilities for expression. I'm not suggesting it will authentically emulate acoustic instrument playing, but still worth the experimentation.
In the sample editor, you need to play with these settings: On the NS2, here's my suggested starting point:
- MOD ENV VELOCITY turned on (I suggest turning off AMP ENV VELOCITY, so you can hear the difference better)
- LP12 Filter (turn down the resonance at first - but later try messing with LP24 and a high resonance setting for some crazy effects)
- Freq Mod 2 knob set to about the 9'oclock position. Values before 12 affects velocity sensitivity
- Main Freq knob set to about 10 o'clock'.
- KB Track turned off
Now if you play softly, the filter will make the sound mellower or muffled. Play harder to get the brighter sound. Experiment...

And now for something completely different...

Re: Wanna B Sax
That's exactly what I've been doing on my NS2 for all of my samples. I was think of making 2 different sampled patches 1 lower velocity and the other the higher velocity sample. Then using aftertouch morphing on A/B synth patches. I'll mess with this and see what I come up with. It's fun and keeps my gray matter working.
