As a sax player I think you cant do this at all (sorry), but every note on a sax is unique in terms of embrochure, attack, vibrato and a host of other things

I agree that a synth can never sound like a saxophone, but here is a sound I made that somehow reminds me of a saxophone.

I thought I'd add something to this old thread as I feel the original reply by ZeroZero is a bit discouraging.

It is pretty much impossible to get anything remotely like a sax using a conventional synth like the one on the Stage, that is true. However, lots of people get perfectly good sax sounds by using samples, so all you lucky Stage 2 owners should be able to do this fairly easily. There are a few very clever synths, such as the MOSS board for the Korg Triton series, that can do pretty good sax sounds as well. So don't give up!

This is my emulation of a sax... of course, as it was said before, it can never be so "realistic".

Hi Freejazz,

I think your SynthSax is really quite good and a great solution for Stage Classic / Stage EX owners. The small percentage of downloads compared to number of listens is probably just a sign that many/most folks here have a sampled solution for sax, but considering it comes from a relatively simple synth architecture, your program sounds great!

Bless,

Pablo

Hi Pablo, you're absolutely right! I find acoustic emulation very interesting but I obviously can't compare the results to physical modeling synthesis or sampling.
Mine was just a "challenge" against my programming skills and, in the end, I enjoyed it. ;)
Anyway, it's a pity the lack of a breath control port, it would be a nice feature to control the synth parameter of the NS.

A breath controller with a midi interface can connect to the Nord's midi input port....

And probably to the Control Pedal port too.
I have an old DX7 breath controller somewhere, I wonder if it is possible to make it work in the NS2 with some modification.

Well, I found this:
http://www.retrosynth.com/~analoguedieh ... roller.jpg
One problem is that the breath controller is fed with 9V and outputs about 5V. I think the expression control connector provides 3V.
If I feed the breath controller with two 1.5V batteries instead of -9V, it still works and outputs about 3V, but not sure how well it works (my digital tester is slow updating the voltages). However I am not sure if the expression pedal expects a voltage between 0 and 3V or what. I am hesitating to try this and damage something. If anybody has a better idea of what goes on at the expression pedal port, please let me know.
