hi guys!
i'm new to this forum, but i think it's fantastic with a place like this.
hope you gurus can spread some light over my issues?
i use my Nord Stage 88 as a mother keyboard and i have my Yamaha Motif Rack ES connected via MIDI.
of course i use my onboard Nord sounds (they're great!) and my Rack fills in the lack of strings and brass.
i do mainly live performances.
i have two questions.
1.
my Nord is setup to send MIDI data to the Rack. (all MIDI data i suppose).
when i press the leslie control button (slow/fast) on the Stage, something is being sent to the Rack which results in the arpeggio switch on the Rack is being turned on. is there a way i can stop the Stage from sending this MIDI message to the Rack?
2.
i use the Extern section of the Stage to control the "Volume" of the Rack. that works great. but the sound from the Rack sounds a bit different, a bit more massive. it seems to me that the Stage also sends filter settings or EQ... and it's beyond my control! have anyone of experienced anything like this? also, when i push the octave buttons in the Extern section, it sounds like the sound is doubled. the sound transposes 1 octave, but it also plays the original octave. strange! so far i have only worked in VOICE mode on the Yamaha Rack, whick is the simplest mode for those of you who don't are familiar with the architecture of Yamahas...

Re: limit the Stage from sending all MIDI data?
ok, after a lot of reading i think the Nord Stage's sending (and recieving) MIDI CC data by default on ch1 (panel A) and ch2 (panel B). i've also read that the Yamaha Rack ES's arperggio is controlled by MIDI cc087-cc090 and that the Stage's rotor functions are assigned to cc088-cc092. this explains the phenomenon.
what i will try to do is stop the Stage from sending these CC's. here's how.
MIDI MENU [SHIFT]+[MIDI]
midi control local = ON
midi panel A/B channel = OFF(A)/OFF(B)
midi organ channel = OFF
midi piano channel = OFF
midi synth channel = OFF
midi dual kb channel = OFF
midi prog change mode = SEND
midi ctrl change mode = SEND
what i'm hoping for here is that the Stage will stop sending MIDI data for each and every onboard control, by setting the MIDI PANEL A/B CHANNEL to OFF.
i will try this later this afternoon. do you guys (who know a bit of MIDI) think i am on the right track?
cheers! /Henrik
