Brand new Dynamic Synthesis album is here:
Sonic environments | ORbits for public and private spaces
Roland Kuit - KYMA
In the tradition of Takehiha Kosugi and Alvin Lucier, Kuit needs to explore the fundamental physics of acoustics whereby the concept of time and space as a vital continuum is morphed with its surroundings.
In his lab, Kuit explored the behavior of orbiting Lissajous figures:
Dynamic synthesis is used to create information streams on a van der Pol oscillator.
A system of parametric equations: {\displaystyle x=A\sin(at+\delta ),\quad y=B\sin(bt),} x=A\sin(at+\delta ),\quad y=B\sin(bt)
Design principles: balance, harmony, gradation, repetition, contrast, dominance.
Design elements: line, shape, size, direction, texture, hue/tone
A mutual relationship exists between the elements and their structure. The structure provides the elements with their specific, perhaps changing, meaning in nano timbre/ time.
This information comes from so-called transients whereby the duration varies between a small part of a period, from 1 usec to 3 or 4 milliseconds.
'Articulation' functioning as identity.
This onset as impulse makes it possible to distinguish the identities of these sonic forms and transforming them to autonomous audio sculptures.
The structure works as a context.
The elements determine which structural measures they can be subjected to in order for their identity to be enhanced, for their meaning to be differentiated and extended.

Re: SONIC FORMS
For the "balance and harmony" better listen to squeaky swings maybe, its free and sounds so organic!

No, that is a complex swing back & forth and.......... aside, but funnyIvan Jochner wrote:For the "balance and harmony" better listen to squeaky swings maybe, its free and sounds so organic!
In your example, swings are used in many engineered objects, such as clocks, metronomes, amusement park rides and earthquake seismometers. In addition, engineers know that understanding the physics of how pendulums behave is an important step towards understanding motion, gravity, inertia and centripetal force.
P = period; which is the time for one pendulum swing [sec]
l = length from the fixed point at the top of the pendulum to the center of mass of the bob [m]
g = gravitational constant (9.8 m per sec2)
π ≈ 3.14 (dimensionless constant)
My approach is using ORBITS as concept. Integrating technology on a conceptual level, does not imply greater stylistic and aesthetic complexity. On the contrary,
technology has the function of relocating the potential of creativity to a different conceptual realm. This relatively new situation has a direct impact on the ability to convey eclectic musical ideas and suddenly many more creative options are available. Again, effectiveness of the musical message is not related to the complexity of the concept itself. This relies on the context, the aesthetics and the function of the technology involved. From the standpoint of innovation, the ideas resulting from the use of technology are to be supported by substantial arguments to justify their novelty, as an attempt to merge musical developments with the technological.
