"One man band" using my NS3 (Rihanna, Moloko tunes etc.)

Postby AlexNagel » 05 May 2018, 06:51

Hi dear forumites,

after my recent 80s pop video I recorded some more contemporary pop tunes as piano instrumentals, this time also using live foot percussion to create beats:

Watch on youtube.com

My NS3 is setup like this:

- Left side of the split (which btw is set to "large" overlap, that makes playing so much more fun!) is a layer of a double bass sample and the "imperial" grand sample (with decreased hi-freqs using the "soft" setting).

- Right hand side is a layer of a nice synth sample (with a MOD envelope controlled filter sweep) combined with the main sound: a Rhodes Mark I (with 3,7 kHz boosted by 9 dB for more "bell") for "Sing It Back", and an upright piano for the other two songs ("Umbrella" / "Euphoria"). Who guesses what .npno sample it is? ;-)

It's just great to have an instrument that sounds so fantastic! ;-)

Happy regards to all!
Alex

Sounds great, Alex! I see what you did there, with your OLEDs.

So the pedal-triggered sounds - did you map them manually to your NS3 sample, zone them somehow, or something else?

Had to cover them. The flickering on the video recording is very distracting. Unfortunately, my cam (Sony HDR MV1) has no option to change the recording frequency, which might help to get rid of the flickering I guess...

The left foot plays a cheap jingle ring, recorded by a Shure Beta 91 mic. My right foot plays a "Finhol Kickbox", that's basically a stomp box, but it's not analog, it triggers a digital sample (cajon sound) internally. I just roll off the high frequencies to get a decent kick drum sound.
