I christen my stay here with a post of my crap:
clockwise from the ventilator:
electro3 73 with ventilator and line6 M9
moog voyager signature #066, moog etherwave plus behind korg R3 atop a 1961 A-100
lead 2 rack, line6 DL4, jamman atop mix rack atop Leslie 145
stage 2 compact atop classic stage 88 atop 1975 rhodes stage 73
behind me: sparkletop piano bass and "fiesta red" piano bass atop a 1968 sparkletop suitcase
another view
stack of stages
more rhodeses
so what brings me here? i just got my stage2 in the mail today, and ho-lee crap it is a pretty awesome device.. it's really what i wanted my original stage to be, but didn't know it at the time.. my classic stage has sat neglected in favor of the electro for some time, in fact i really didn't take to it as well as i thought i would - turns out my preference is for the 73-key keybed even for pianos since my background is organ, but i thought if i had a good weighted board i'd take to it better.. after all, i love playing real rhodeses, so it seemed to make sense.. well, after spending some time with the stage2 i can say my electro 73 and stage 88 will be up for sale shortly..
the only real downside to the stage2 compact is that now i have no room for my ventilator and M9, which i will still keep in the mix.. the two-tier idea won't work because i gig with the voyager too, but who knows, maybe this new synth section will allow me to leave the moog at home? i mean, it won't sound better, but maybe it'll be a good enough compromise now that it has LFO and some other tasty bits.. i've only had an hour to play with it so far, but we'll see..
anyhow, that's me!

Re: My turn
hey!! great studio you have!!!! congrats!!
as for leaving your moog at home, I think you'll find out it's possible. The synth section isn't as intuitive as a classic synth and there are some shortcuts you'll have to accept, but with a good programing it is capable of very effective synth sounds.

Re: My turn
Yeah, I tweaked the knobs on the synth section for about 5 minutes and I was impressed with the capabilities, having used the classic stage for a number of years now.. I love the analogness of the Moog, it lives and breathes just like my A-100, it's got a personality that's slightly different than other Voyager's I've played but I worry every time I take it out of the case at a gig.. we'll see how it shakes out, if I can make the sounds I want to make, we may have a winner!
Once I got the Moog and slapped it on top of the A-100 I knew I needed a picture of the master to watch over the gear.. I'm a Doors fan, but I wouldn't call them one of my absolute favorites, I had a time in my life (pre-marriage, pre-kids) where I ran into a few good deals on piano basses, including that original one on the right in Fiesta Red, and I wanted a sparkletop to go with the '68.. They sound really good, the original one has this low thump that I've not been able to reproduce on any of my stage pianos.. I also have a few Wurlis and some more Rhodeses out in the control room, but to be honest the Wurlis stay off a lot, the Electro/Stage is pretty spot-on.. With the Nords now more and more these are all just collectables and investments, and with the clones doing such a good job the vintage market has kind of leveled.. And now with companies building new electromechanical pianos, who knows what will happen with the demand for the originals, hopefully i don't wind up with a studio full of boat anchors.. :)
anyhow, thanks for the welcome guys, I hope I can be a quality contributor here!

Re: My turn
Some tracks from the last gig we had recorded:
"Dog Without a Tail"
A straight-forward fake jazz song, just some fun, particularly spastic solo from me in this version..
"Walk Through Walls"
Some Rhodes embellishment on the NE3, but the Moog takes a step forward..
"Whipping Post"
You may have heard of this one.. Excuse the unfortunate un-advised minor chord selection for the first few measures of the verse - my ears were shot at this point.. (is the story I'm going with)
For this gig the organs are the NE3 through a Ventilator, the NE3 pianos and the Moog go through the Line6 M9..

Re: My turn
great stuff, really like your music!! Nice keys!! great blend of classic sounds, modern timbre. And congrats to the microbeat of your drummer and the voice - not obvious to find!!
And your studio - it's just awesome! How long does it take to just power it all up ;-) ??

Re: My turn
Tracks from last Friday:
New original, Orchid Thief - lyrics still in flux, kinda messy transitions still.
Cover with lots of intra-band miscommunication.. :)
Older original, Hard on You, dusted off and shaken out..

Re: Your turn indeed!
Awesome set Bri,
If you guys get anywhere close to Florida, do let me know, as I'd surely make a road trip to come see you.
I love the originals, I found myself playing along..."not that you left a whole lot of room".
The way the lighting dimmer packs buzz in the guitar player's amp certainly makes me miss playing out.
It's funny how a sound brings it all back.
Cheers, Hanon
