My Handmade Wooden Nord Grand Stand:

Post by tylerduncan »

Hi all! :D First let me introduce myself, I'm a 22 year old pianist / artist / carpenter from Arizona, USA! I've been playing piano for 17 years, a Nord user for 4 four years, and a lurker of this forum for a couple of those.

I upgraded from a Nord Piano 2 to the Nord Grand last year, and was having some annoyance with my flimsy metal stand shifting around too much while playing aggressively. Missing the feel of playing on an acoustic piano and not being able to justify spending ~$800 on Nord's official wooden stand, I decided to build my own! It's made to look like an old upright piano base, and really feels like it with the sturdiness it provides.

Thanks for reading/ taking a look! I'm very happy with how it turned out, and hope to post more frequently here. :)

Best, Tyler

P.S., hope this is in the right place! Couldn't decide whether to post this here or "Accessories / Amp" subforum

Wow. Just wow.

How is that made? The "legs" are turned, the edges routed, but how are the ornaments made? They aren't carved/graved by hand, are they? I always wanted to know how this is done! (sorry, I'm not sure for the English technical terms)

I wish I was skilled enough to carve those myself! But the ornaments are pre-carved pieces that are bought at hardware stores, and they're nailed onto the furniture and painted to match the rest of the wood :)

Great work! Thanks for sharing with us. If you have any pictures that show this as it was coming together, that would be cool as well! I'm a hack carpenter and get jazzed up knowing how things are constructed.

I too am astonished at how that turned out. My first guess was "he must have taken apart an old piano and reused it," but then I looked closer and knew it must be a full custom creation. Seriously cool work there.
