Question about resonance gen 1 vs gen 2

Perhaps this is a simple question, but the subject of resonance is a bit confusing to me.

On my Electro 3 with generation 1 resonance, if I'm playing with the sustain pedal down, will it sound the same as an instrument that has gen 2 resonance that's also being played with sustain pedal down (aside from dynamic crescendo)?

Good question, in theory yes but actually not as I think the Sympathetic Resonance of Gen2 plays a role also when sustain pedal is pressed (on a Gen2 instrument you can hear a difference if you switch that on and off)

This is what's confusing. The sympathetic res of gen 2 is supposed to let you hear notes and harmonics of notes held down and not sounding, when a related note is played, if I understand things correctly. But having the sustain pedal depressed (with gen 1 or gen2) essentially lifts all the dampers, so all notes that have been played whether held or not will continue to be heard until they fade. So why would gen 1 sound different from gen 2 in those circumstances?

Also, I've seen comments that switching off resonance turns off both types of resonance, so if this is correct it may account for hearing a difference with that switch off that has nothing to do with gen 1 or gen 2 specifically.

Am I barking up the wrong tree here? :?:

Hi,

When the sustain pedal is depressed there is no difference between Gen1 and Gen2 I think,

pedal down behavior can be reproduced by switching to a second sample set that was recorded with pedal down on the sampled piano

I'm with Albert here. Considering the behavior of a real live piano, I believe that the types of resonance artifacts which Nord describes as Gen 2 are a subset of those which Nord describes as Gen 1.

If there are any slight technical differences to the resonance artifacts produced by Gen 2 conditions as compared to what would be produced on the same strings under Gen 1 conditions , I suspect that these are 1) so small as to be barely discernible even in the most pristine listening environment/conditions, and 2) almost certainly overpowered sonically by the Gen 1 type artifacts produced while damper pedal is engaged.

Bless,

Pablo

Yes, thinking twice after reading Albert comment and particularly Pablo's technical explanation, I think it makes sense
