I had a NE3 and I now have a NE4D.
On the former, you can press the LO/HI button to toggle between lower and upper manual, so that you can set each manual drawbars.
On le NE4D, there are two buttons "Preset/Lo" and "Drawbars/Hi". The manual explains that pressing the first one allows to use the setting stored in the (organ) preset while pressing the second one allows to use the real physcal drawbars setting.
Two questions I have.
1- What are those "Lo" and "Hi" labels for?
2- Is there way to set the lower manual and then the upper manual? I cannot find any simple workflow for that...
The NE4d manual is not so clear on that part, but if you read also the section on "Additional Midi keyboard" it becomes a bit clearer, so:
1- the Hi and Lo labels are "valid" when in Split mode (on the 4d keyboard or using an external MIDI keyboard), which is why they are black as the Split label.
2 - when you are in Split mode those 2 buttons should select the upper/lower manual and allow you to change their settings
That's exactly what I thought, seems quite straightforward. Yet I could not do what you describe: everytime I tried to edit the upper part, I actually affect to it the drawbar setting of the lower one.
But hey, I'll re-re-read the part you're indicating and try again tonight. I'll keep you in touch
Well, no. pressing the "Hi" button only activate the physical drawbar setting. It seems the only way to do that is editing the Hi part while not in Split mode, and editing the Lo part while in Split mode.
That's really strange, are you using the split on NE4 keyboard or with an external one?
Because for the external keyboard the manual says:
(....)This will activate the organ split mode, but since MIDI Split is set to On, the Electro 4D’s keyboard will only play the upper part without being split . Adjust the drawbars for the lower, external keyboard when the Preset/ Lo LED is lit and for the Electro 4D’s keyboard when the Drawbar/Up LED is lit .
and it would be strange that this is only valid when uising an external MIDI second manual keyboard.
It is possible that if you are not in Split mode (internal or external) the Lower manual is simply not active and so you cannot edit it in that condition (if this is what you are trying to do), but it is just my guess (we need a 4d user to confirm).
That is probably valid for the 4d only as the other non-d models seem to have the same Hi/Lo buttons as the NE3, not having to manage the physical drawbars (which probably led to a compromise on the 4d)

I guessed so indeed. I confirm I'm in Split mode (but no MIDI split here, just my NE4D and me).
I seem to have to get in/out of the split mode to be able to edit correctly.
I've the exact same problem, which I made a thread about. It seems anti-intuitive that you can only edit the lower manual on patch recall, when editing the upper is much more useful (and often necessary) in performance.
