Traynor Block 12 vs. Mackie SRM550?

Hey everyone, I'm in the market for a new keyboard amp, as my Roland KC is no longer cutting it with its overly boomy bass. I want something lightweight (no more than around 35 lbs.), but also powerful (max sPl higher than 120 dB). I'm looking to possibly dive into the powered loudspeaker market with the Mackie SRM550, but only because the loudspeaker itself has 1/4" TRS inputs, not just XLR (to avoid lugging a mixer). I also like the specs of the Traynor Block12 keyboard combo amp. Both seem really impressive, though the Traynor seems more versatile with its multi-channel inputs and equalization. The Traynor is also fan cooled. The Mackie could have more uses to me in other settings where it can be used to monitor or as a PA. Both seem well made (Mackie uses the term 'built like a tank') and powerful, does anyone have experience with these units? Do you guys pefer dedicated keyboard amplifiers or active loudspeakers?

There is a LOT of discussion about this on the forums, e.g.

Or find posts using the search, or via google:

I would also have a look at Chuck's blog:

The general consensus is that keyboard combo amps simply aren't good enough these days. Like you, I ditched my combo amp and bought a single powered speaker instead. I went for the Yamaha DXR10 because it offered the right balance of price / sounds / versatility for me. It had a crisper sound than the Mackie SRM450, and better input / output options. The QSC K10 had a slightly nicer (warmer) sound, but was 25% more expensive... I plan to buy a second Yamaha at some point.
Also look at the spacestation v3, it is apparently awesome. I may well buy one, if I ever get to hear one in UK!

I was going to reply to this, but spradders said it all for me in the post before this one!
The only thing I would add is, to check out the EV ELX 112 (the ZLX is not as good for acoustic pianos IMHO), and the Line 6 L2T.

For smaller gigs and an Electro 2 (in your sig), definitely give the SSv3 serious consideration.
